  • Tesla Motors preps solar rooftop initiative [View news story]
Wrong, those of us that have been around renewable for sometime know that energy storage is the part of the puzzle that is missing.
Tesla as a car company at some point will fail from it's own success. Some time in the future there will not be the grid capacity to charge all the electric cars.
    What happens then?
Well you buy a electric car from Tesla, solar roof top energy from SolarCity and home based energy storage system from Tesla.
    Musk is one smart guy.

  • SolarCity's Business Model Will Position It Well For Long-Term Growth [View article]
    SolarCity is a finance company.

The original business was to syphon ITC off of customers for the benefit of the top 1% through tax equity partnerships. That model runs out in 2016.

The next step is that once the equity flips in the partnerships then SolarCity packages lease and PPA's sells then to investors much like during the mortgage debacle.

SolarCity, after all the above revenue sources are exhausted, will be nothing more than a debt service company.

The reason SolarCity does not make a profit is that the company was never designed to. It is eventually nothing more than 21th century tax shelter for large banks.

Investing in a company where 30% of their income is from tax credit ,that sunsets in 2016, andstill can't turn a profit is not a business model logical investors would embrace.

  • SolarCity, Battery Storage And The Next Energy Revolution [View article]
    1. SolarCity's has been built on incentive programs. With the exception the liberal states those incentives are going away. The recent election of a more conservative congress and state houses will effect SolarCity's business model.
    2. Storage will only be a effective business model where electric rates are set based on time of use. Battery storage will allow firms like SolarCity to arbitrage the sale of stored energy to the IOU.
    3. HECO is a unique market. Hawaii is totally dependent on electricity for energy. All water heating in Hawaii is electric. HECO has the opportunity to store solar energy produced during daylight hours in customer water heaters for latter use. In the mainland natural gas is the main source water heating in high solar installation areas like California.

  • Who Is Telling The Truth? Elon Musk Or Wards Auto? [View article]
    Paulo good article.

You are right on. It is all about which data you choose to use.
Like most analysis the headline number is not the important information it is the underlying supporting data that needs examination.

  • Tesla And The Risks Of The China Expansion [View article]
The question I have is why China?
It looks to me like Tesla is spreading it's capital to thin and for what reason. With half a billion potential customers in the US and Europe, where the infrastructure is built out, Tesla does not seem to see enough customers to buy their future production.
This is a problem for me and should be for anyone investing in Tesla.

  • Tesla's Highly Scalable Model [View article]
Wonderful Tesla hype TT. But margins are not net profit. One would think that Musk and company with all their genius managers would be reporting a profit.
If a 26.9 GAAP margin still gives Tesla negative earnings. What will happen when the low cost models come out with even lower margins.
Any company that loses money on each and every sell is simply buying customers, example Amazon. At some point Tesla will have to make profit to support their stock price. I simply don't see how selling cheaper cars will make Tesla profitable.

  • Tesla Motors: China Update [View article]
I agree, a poorly researched article. The Tesla China story is Tesla spreading it's limited resource to thinly by trying to make an impact in the China market when the US and Europe markets are said to be so strong for their cars?

  • Portfolio Innovation Will Bring Growth For Hormel Foods [View article]

  • Report: Gigafactory cost savings begin in 2018 or later [View news story]
The referenced report raises two issues that are pivotal to the Tesla discussion.
One is that Tesla production numbers are highly dependent on China sales.
Two is for Tesla to drive the projected sales number will require that Tesla shift significant production to China.

How will the Tesla and China story effect USA production?
