      More Ford bashing! You should know that the "battery technology" used in the Japanese cars was developed here in the US in the early 1990s and funded by the taxpayers. Moreover, Ford is not "lightyears" behind in the technology, but unwilling to commit money to re-tooling plants for mfg electric vehicles until it becomes clear that they will be the preferred mode. This is Toyota's strategy too, but you don't see that. If they wanted to rush a luxury car out, they could do do before 2010. On another note, Ford is "lightyears" ahead of everyone else in flex-fuel vehicles. Aug 17 09:22 AM

      Finally! An analysis of the auto industry that doesn't extol the Japanese companies as the end-all, be-all. All of the auto companies have had quality problems and I commend the author for pointing that out. I do, however, disagree that the US makers haven't been giving the consumer what they want. After all, SUVs were in great demand and were high-margin products. Similarly, truck demand was spurred by the housing bubble when every Tom, Dick and Harry became a check-book builder. In addition, I wouldn't discount ethanol. Unlike electricity, it has been tried and proven on a large scale. Brazil runs a nation on it. It can be done here if the speculators can be kept at bay long enough for sorghum to replace corn. Jul 21 07:42 AM
