You are so out of touch and uninformed to the benefits of big pharma and pharmaceuticals in this day in age. If you knew anything you'd appreciate the man hours and funding that goes into these companies to better our everyday lives. Pharmaceutical drugs are taken everyday by hundreds of millions of people that SAVE LIVES. Are you insane? Unless you live in sub-Saharan Africa or have the education of a adolescent chimp, I may be able to let you slide.
The science behind these drugs takes a tremendous effort (an average of 15 years in the discovery process and nearing 1B in clinical studies) by thousands of hard-working, Ivy league-educated scientists, the kind of people I'm sure you've never encountered. Now of course you can't put a number on the lives saved by these increasingly vital therapeutics, but I love how you cite 34 deaths. Please. It's safe to say Penicillin alone (initially isolated by Merck in the 50's) has sustained an enormous percentage of the human race.
And leave it up to the miracle worker, his Holiness, Barrack Obama to save those negatively affected by these drugs. By putting limits and caps on these companies and suppressing their funding will only drive the best of the best scientists from the US (where the best minds from all over the world collaborate) and increase the price of state-of-the-art drugs we will all need some day. That's some real genius at work..

Great article...up until the last paragraph. Coal will dominate and the evidence in this article is right on. It boils down to the environment vs. the economy and the world economies must recognize this in order to have a leg up in the global markets. And Germany is in its own world in terms of alternative energy sources, and they're economy is going to be lagging in the near future. "Germany produced 1,300 megawatts from solar installations in 2007" whereas Dubai will be cruising ahead of them with four 4,000MW coal burning plants. Not to mention the exorbitant price of a producing single solar cell... fools they are
