Is Wal-Mart Actually 'More Evil' Than Google? [View article]
It's not that the workers are low-skilled. It's that Wal-mart claims it doesn't take much skill to work there.
To be honest, Wal-mart has always been stingy with individuals, always caring more about profit than about helping their employees. Contrast the way they treat their workers in comparison to Costco. Sure, one company is smaller, but still finds a way to pay their workers desirable rates. Also compare them with companies like Safeway, where the workers are in a union earn FAR higher rates and better benefits.
Wal-mart doesn't provide full-time employees with *any* benefits until after a year of employment. Part time employees have to wait 2 years. I personally know someone who was mysteriously dropped to part time 2 weeks before their first year of employment was over. Then she had to wait another year to receive benefits.
This kind of greedy behavior is wrong, and there's no way around it.
