TAL doesn't look real good either. While the PE at 10.47 is at the low end it looks like it's forming a double top at the top of it's range. EPS looks good but flat. I would target this one around $10.75 on the dip.

Talavera: Greetings and happy thanks giving. I haven't been looking locally but the snapshot for ABFS doesn't look appetizing right now. With a current EPS of $-1.88 and negative momentum I would target it at $19. Looks like it could make money Q2 2010 with a forward EPS @ $0.52. So if you have some, hold it if not wait for the dip. Got dry powder?

Erwhan: Greetings. Excellent article and data points. I too am expecting range bound volatility and am looking at commodity stocks as I think they may be a good bet going forward. Hi gang at least those still here. There is an interesting article at (forbes.com) regarding earnings going forward. It deals with the effects current cost cutting measures on future earnings and some other factors. Let me know what you folks think. I didn't know what to make of it.

More Foreclosure Sales, Please

Consider the SC supreme court decision yesterday that effectively suspended foreclosures in that state pending review of the owners eligibility for HAMP and made the order retroactive to may when the bill was enacted. Other states are almost certain to follow suite and create an environment that will be toxic for vulture investors. Would you buy a distressed property if there was a chance that the courts would return it to the foreclosed owner pending Federal review? What about those distressed and foreclosed properties that have been sold what precedent will be set by the courts in regard to them? What impact if any will these pending court decisions have on the broader RE market and other team Obama agenda items? How will the financiers react and will their actions affect the broader equity market? No Mr. Pundit I don't think that everything is turning up roses. In fact these things may end in the RE market pushing up daisies and the agoney could well last for years.

FDR's spending approach lengthened and deepened the depression. Japans lost decade was aided and abetted by government spending and they are still hard at it and getting nowhere. As for what would or would not have happened had no action or a different course of action been taken that is pure speculation. What is certain is that no nation state in the history of the world has taxed itself to prosperity. The same can be said of massive deficits and devaluing the currency. Out of control spending beyond ones means to repay the loans is a recipe for disaster whether the spender is an individual or a nation state.

Greetings all and a happy thanks giving to every one. Just more voodoo economics on display. "Beats." on negative numbers. Misses on positive ones. Unemployed consumers are more optimistic while fully employed investors are less so. Employees are in no position to take on more debt and employers are too cautious about more leveraging in a hostile environment. Small businesses won't borrow either because they may be crushed financially by pending legislation. Add the toxic waste hidden by the TBTF banks and the less than savory CRE loans at the regionals and no one is lending even to those who would borrow. Looks like a bleak holiday season to me.

Well well I'm sure I will catch a lot of grief but the HAMP laws initiated by the federal government appear to be unconstitutional. But hey contracts mean nothing just look at the bankruptcy proceedings favoring the UAW over bond holders. As bad as it seems that families are loosing their homes for innumerable reasons as the economic melt down unfolds having Uncle Sugar being even more intrusive and abrogating more contract law can't be a good thing. As John pointed out this will prolong the housing agony almost indefinitely.

I was on a discussion board at MF yesterday after work and Terrible Tim the tax cheat leaving was being discussed. General consensus seemed to be that he should go and that the precondition for his replacement would be that the individual has no ties to Goldman (GS) or Citti (C). I would heartily agree with that. Keep in mind too that just because you aren't thinking along the lines every one else is doesn't mean your wrong. I too think that there may well be another correction and thus went long in bonds several weeks ago. I would rather jump the gun on the side of caution than get caught with my shorts err... stops down.
