So GM (Government Motors) will pay back their loans using a different pile of tax payer dollars. I wish I could pay off my loans with money borrowed from the same source and then call it even. What a racket.

Jenna Lee at Fox Business is reporting that Helicopter Ben wants to decide executive pay at all financial institutions to curb their penchant for risky behavior. He asserts that this will mitigate systemic risk. He also wants to regulate overdraft and late fees. What do those items have to do with risk mitigation?

Board rooms have always been good ol boys clubs. Share holders could deal with some of this with board elections. However getting enough of them moving in the same direction is like herding cats. Just ask Carl Ichan.

Ah yes control the pay. Didn't Barney Frank try to get legislation to regulate every one's pay a few months ago? Will this result in brain drain for the affected companies? Or will this be a cost advantage for them inducing competitors to make similar pay cuts? How will these events affect stock prices and returns? As for leading indicators no one is shipping any thing and no one is buying any thing.

Uncle Buck is taking a beating and will continue to do so as long as the current crop of geniuses stay the course. Brazil has initiated a 2% tax on foreign investment cash inflow. Australia has raised their interest rates and we await the end game complacently. Hope and change are not a strategy for success.

Step right up every one's a winner. All the big boys beat consensus handily on negative numbers. Sheila finally figured out that too big too fail banks that failed and are propped up by the government have a unfair competitive advantage. Gee ya think? BK says that every thing is great while nearly tripling their loss preparations to $147B. I'm sure that's a clue. Does any one want to buy a vowel here?

With health care legislation shaping up behind closed doors and the Senate promising to use budget reconciliation to pass it with 51 votes the health insurance industry could be in trouble. Team Obama is dead set on getting single payer. With out tort reform Pharma and trial lawyers are going to be the only ones benefiting from this.

  • Equities Update: Mixed Feelings Ahead of Earnings Season [View article]
With Pig weed having a larger than expected impact on agriculture in the southern U.S. and drought in much of the west severely impacting agriculture there especially in CA we are likely to see the cost of produce rise. This could mean even more pressure on consumer discretionary spending so I would expect discounters like FDO and COST to do well going forward. Especially if team Obama's energy assessment is off the mark (That never happens) and this winter is more severe than they are expecting ( Two ski areas opened this week the earliest ever).

Let's see here: Uncle Sugar pushes deals on banks to buy up financials to prevent them from failing. Then the NY AG prosecutes the executives for doing what they were told to do, as in keep this hush hush. I hope that all the gory details from all of those transactions come out and that those execs start singing like canaries. Then th NY AG can start prosecuting Federal officials for these shenanigans. Meanwhile we seem intent to sell the entire country to China. Better brush up on your Mandrin.

Shoot we can't even influence Scotland any more. Now Charley Wrangle wants to stiffen tax evasion penalties. Can we make that retroactive and apply it to him and Tim?

BofA settles suit except they didn't because the investigation continues. Terrible Tim the tax cheat may hold his breath until he turns blue. Where can I get tickets?
