Sirius XM: Media's Fear-Mongering Has Gone on Long Enough [View article]
SIRI really does get slammed all the time by the media. There was a time when it was half warranted, but now its just shameless. In an already emotional market, SIRI is really sensitive to any type of press. When some downgrade or article mentioning bankruptcy comes out you can watch sentiment dive (www.predictwallstreet....) and then an upgrade later sentiment is back up. The price is all over the place. I guess at this point I'm glad someone is exposing the truth about their bankruptcy issues.
Buy, Sell or Hold: McDonald's Is a Better Bargain than Ever [View article]
I agree with your points. McDonald's is one of the few companies right now able to report any positive numbers. But I'd have to agree with Marcap that it isnt necessarily cheap right now so its makes the question of buy sell or hold a little more tricky.
As for the people though who are not spending at Starbucks because they don't want to overpay for coffee will find that the instant coffee is an acceptable alternative. I don't really thing SBUX is bringing down their brand by introducing this line. I think it was smart to reach all corners of their market which is something every company has to do right now given the economy. Sentiment is bearish right now for SBUX (www.predictwallstreet....) but I think once people see that SBUX is trying to adapt and accommodate to the new environment, sentiment could become optimistic.
Netflix Competitors Can Only Play Catch-Up [View article]
Simply said-they are playing catch up. Its like the Apple/Microsoft chase. Being a "me too" kind of company never works out, originality will prevail. With Netflix, not only were they trailblazers in this industry but they perfected the model. And as consumer spending decrease, more and more people will turn to NetFlix as a cheap home entertainment alternative. NFLX has growing market share and their sentiment is becoming more bullish (www.predictwallstreet....). I think investors are starting to see NFLX as a good buying opportunity and a company that keeps getting positive press.
'Hurricane Carol' Bartz Could Announce a Major Yahoo Management Reorg Next Week [View article]
Well whatever she is doing is good and investors are liking it. Sentiment is up (www.predictwallstreet....) and YHOO is neither up nor down today although I predict they close up. This is exactly what YHOO needed- was someone strong enough to come and say this is going and that is staying. I'm excited to see what happens to YHOO in the coming months...
6 Simple Reasons Why Betting Against Apple Now Is a Mistake [View article]
I guess I wouldn't say last week's changes are irrelevant, but that the 6 points you made eclipse last week's bad news in the long run. Clearly they had some effect as AAPL market share dropped to 13.7% and sentiment became really bearish (www.predictwallstreet....). But I think its more important that these are minor fluxes and that like you said, as the news evens out, AAPL could be in for a rebound.
I really dont understand why Starbucks is getting so much flack for this. They are innovating and accomadting to our weakening economy. Some Starbucks fans may simply not have the time to drive to a store to get coffee and Starbucks is offering an alternative. And while its not that significant, 19 dollars for 24 servings is still cheaper than a lot of customers customized drinks. I dont really think this weakening the brand at all. Its not like Starbucks is selling an entire line of doughnuts or something. They are simply bringing their coffee into their consumers home. Everything else is changing, why shouldnt Starbucks? Those who dont adapt will not survive.
Starbucks: Now Most Expensive in Instant Coffee Too! [View article]
I think this is something I would at least try. Any Starbucks fan will at least be curious to see if they can deliver quality taste in these instant coffee packets. Not to mention, if they are good, I could see myself using them in the morning because I frankly just dont have the time to go to Starbucks anymore and its not so much an issue of whether SBUX is too expensive or not. This could also bring a new sort of class to making coffee at home. Folgers is just kinda a joke for younger kids..no one wants to be using the coffee their grandma likes. Via is quick, easy and has a reputation that some people may be looking for.
RIMM always has and always will be a volatile stock. With RIMM its more about timing that anything, when to get out... One day investors are optimistic about RIMM, they next they are downgraded and their is a sell-off frenzy (www.predictwallstreet....). I think you got to be in RIMM for the long run to get a feel for its waves. RIMM is definitely no where it used to be and it will most likely be awhile before it gets back there, if it ever does.
I would expect NFLX too keep growing in the next quarter. As consumers tighten up on entertainment expenses, movie rental services are going to become more popular and NFLX offers the cheapest and best package. Investors really like NFLX too, its sentiment is bullish (www.predictwallstreet....) and I would expect this to stay strong into the next quarter.
Tuesday Trading May Bring New Life to Sirius [View article]
Wow, this is unexpected news. While I dont want to get my hopes up its crazy to watch SIRI have jumped so much and their sentiment rise so fast (www.predictwallstreet....). Finally SIRI is saved from bankruptcy!
Ford a Likely Survivor of the Auto Industry Crisis [View article]
Ford definitely seems to be the strongest of the three right now. Despite the positive PR from them opting it, it's saying something about the company-that they are possibly in a better situation than the other 2. While all three are down, F seems to be the least fluctuating and their sentiment is the highest (www.predictwallstreet....). I think investors are feeling more optimistic about F than GM, but that isn't really saying much either.
Two Growth Stocks for a Dismal Economy [View article]
I really believe NetFlix has so much more potential in this economy. Not only is the mail-in rental service is easy and cheap, but now with the introduction of streaming videos (which is free with a regular subscription) they are making home entertainment even more affordable and easy. As families began to tighten their spending more, NetFlix's subscribers are gonna grow. They just need to see another quarter of profitable growth and keep their sentiment high (www.predictwallstreet....) as its been steadily rising in the past week.
The Kindle will never be an iPod ever. The price of it alone is enough of a deterrent. And to the first comment, I would never read my textbooks on this thing. While textbooks are expensive, I take comfort in knowing that at the end of every quarter I will recover more than half that money back by selling them back. You can't do that with an electronic book. Not to mention there is something about having the physical book that I could never give up. Sentiment was actually extremely bearish at the beginning of this week, quickly ticked up and is now back on it's way down (www.predictwallstreet....). The Kindle alone is not enough to help AMZN from diminishing consumer spending.
RIMM is rumored to be doing a buy-one-get-one free deal on their BlackBerry's with Verizon customers...I cant decipher whether this is an act of disparity or a good move to help double unit numbers. There now down almost 17% but sentiment is bullish (www.predictwallstreet....) so I'm not exactly sure what is going on. I think Q4 reports are going to be pretty disappointing.
