  • Should Income Investors Worry About Higher Dividend Taxes? [View article]
I have also structured my portfolio into mostly dividend paying stocks. I’m not sure where you got your information from but I am in my late 50’s and last year in both taxable and non-taxable IRA accounts I made over $16,000 last year in dividend paying stocks. Over $9,000 of that was from taxable accounts because I happen to hold a substantial amount of foreign stocks, ADR’s, and like to deduct the foreign taxes paid such as in TEF or SID. I also have STD but take a script dividend in shares thus avoiding the Spanish tax. So if the current treatment of dividends expire at the end of this year then I will be paying a lot more in taxes on dividends. What the government should do is reward those who invest and extend the dividend program indefinitely, and also allow people who are at retirement age, above 62, to never again pay any tax on any qualified dividends. They keep talking about how bad it is for retired people but they keep taxing them.

  • Sirius XM: The $3,583,112,267 Question To Ask Yourself [View article]
While I am neither an author or expert in trading stocks, this article appears to be well written. The fact that some funds are reducing shares tells me they might have initiated the purchase at under the $2 range and might just be taking some profits. I also see no funds that have completely closed out their positions, though some have halved their positions. I would be more concerned if some of the major players sold out all their shares.
