The Woz Is Sounding Bearish on Apple [View article]
Dear PhD, you are wrong on Apple business model. Go and read my forum posts for past one year and I have been saying that Apple cannot continue to sell luxury items in a downward economy. Morons like YOU, Brewer and Toni believe that other computer companies like Toshiba, Dell, Sony and HP sell trash and no one buys their products, especially Laptops. Apple's pricing and Steve Jobs business model will do more harm to Apple stock in the long run. Apple's stock cannot go higher and higher because they will continue to sell iPods and iPhones. That's not going to happen. The global financial crisis does affect all computer companies, but Apple is more vulnerable. Look at Toyota's stock and sales number. Just five months back they boldy predicted 9.85 million sales for 2008 and three days ago 0% financing was announced and sales forecast has been slashed. Do you think people are mad to buy Lexus and pricey Toyota SUVs when the economy is down. Apple is exactly like Lexus and frugal consumers will shun pricier products when their wallets have holes. Just don't write crap in forums.

Morons like Brewer try to trash anyone who are critical of Apple. Idiots like Brewer claim that "Keep in mind, the rotary dial phone is also a touch based device". Are these guys living in fantasy world? Look at where Apple stock is. In Jan 2008, I predicted the share price to drop to around $85-90, when there was a big hype about iPhones crossing 10 M mark soon. Yes, Apple indeed sold nearly 10 M as analyzed by Turley Muller of seekingalpha. Steve Jobs boldly predicted that Apple would sell 10 M iPhones in one year and he thought that consumers would queue up to buy these phones. In reality this did not happen, until the price was slashed after 45 days and a cheaper 3G version was introduced. To continue this momentum, Apple has to slash the prices to appease frugal consumers in other countries. Hey Brewer, I didn't know that rotary phone is also a touch based device - what a great discovery ??? Try to sell few Apple shares to Wall St. with your discovery. You can also stand in front of NYC 5th Avenue store to demonstrate that rotary phones are also touch based device. Toni is a bigger MORON than Brewer. These two misguided fools should be chased out of all forums.

My dear friend Brewer - you too live in a Fools paradise. Just compare the specs of MacBook 2.1 Ghz/120 Gb HDD/ 1 Gb RAM costing $1099 to same specs. from Sony/ Toshiba/ Dell/ HP which you can buy for less than $699. Don't fool yourselves by writing crap in forums. You need to substantiate your claim. I own both MacBook and HP/ Dell laptops and I find value in non-Mac machines. It's not about Windows. People like you rant nonsense in forums about Apple's superior products which are pricey. FYI I also own an iPhone and love the device as much as I love my Palm and Samsung PDAs. Looks like you are not aware that iPhone was launched in India this month for Rupees 31,000 ($715). The sales numbers till date are depressing and Apple will have to slash prices by nearly 50% to compete with Nokia and Samsung. The Indian festival season has already arrived and Nokia is launching its first touch based device for half the price of iPhone. Please verify facts before you write in a forum.
Idiots like dithers and Toni are living in fools paradise. Apple fanatics need to understand basic human tendency when it comes buying computer hardware. Which fool will shell out $1000+ to buy a new laptop from Apple when you get a nice powerful machine from Toshiba, Dell, Sony and HP? Just compare the specs. between these mainstreet laptop vs. pricey Macs. Guys, don't think that coolness will sell in a depressed economy. Let Steve Jobs roll out a sub $999 laptop to compete with Dell and HP machines. The biggest growth markets in this entire world are China, Brazil and India. Apple products (Macs and iPhones) have fared poorly in these markets. iPhone is a disaster in India and China. This holiday season will force Steve Jobs to cut price of iPhone from $199 to $149 with 2-4 Gb memory. dithers and Toni -Stop ranting in forums like this, if you can't do some thinking.
Gosh, iPhone users tend to forget past history very quickly. Slow down guys and look back just four years ago. Foxconn and Motorola were doing the same ramp up for Razr and here we are in 2008 repeating the same mistake. AT&T and Verizon literally slammed Motorola by reducing Razr's cost and making it a cheap commodity. AT&T can still do this to iPhone by arm twisting Apple - they have managed to give away iPhone for $199 which many Apple fans thought was impossible. Apple is a new player in mobile phone market. Apple is a great company to produce the iPhone, but has very little experience in handling such massive worldwide launches. Companies like Microsoft, Dell, Sony and IBM have burnt badly with production problems. Most notably Xbox 360, PS3, Sony batteries and Dell Laptops. The weakest link in this production chain is Quality control with Chinese/ Taiwanese assemblers. One small problem and the entire lot will have to be recalled. Apple is yet to experience the kind of production problems that other competitors have faced - they still had Macbook battery recall in 2006. Also Steve Jobs forecast of 10 Million iPhones made last year was way off. Apple had to drastically cut down the price to boost sales and now introduced 3G in less than a year. All these developments weren't taken into consideration while making 10 million forecast. So let's be cautious in giving Apple all the benefits of a great iPhone launch.
