  • Apple's Loser Strategy [View article]
I stopped reading after the statement that Lexus and BMW are superior in every respect to Cadillac and Lincoln. That is just not true. It really depends upon the model. You need to dig under the hood a little more before these analogies.

  • Senate Slams Apple On Tax Avoidance [View article]
Maybe Apple should move its headquarters to another country. Then, the Senate could pound someone like Google for being unAmerican and Apple could be considered a great ally for paying so much taxes to the U.S. despite not being an American company.
I hope this post doesn't get me audited by the IRS!

  • Apple (AAPL) releases Tim Cook's official statement (.pdf) to the Senate ahead of his Tuesday appearance at a hearing on corporate tax payments. Among other things, Apple claims it paid ~$6B in federal taxes in FY12 and a 30.5% effective federal tax rate, and that its foreign units don't engage in the practices the hearing focuses on (the shifting of IP to offshore havens, revolving loans from subsidiaries, etc). The company proposes a tax system that's "revenue neutral, eliminates all tax expenditures, lowers tax rates and implements a reasonable tax on foreign earnings." (previous[View news story]
Do you want even more corporations to leave the U.S.? If they move to a more business friendly country, taxes in places like China won't hit them so hard.

  • Report: Apple holding music service talks, mulling Android iTunes app [View news story]
iTunes became super successful in the first place because it supported non-Apple products (i.e. Windows). I think they could do the same with their streaming app without hurting their iPhone sales. I'm not sure about iTunes although the two do go together somewhat.

  • Why Apple Didn't Fix Its Biggest Problem [View article]
Apple certainly needs new products and new market segments to climb higher, but this is true with most high tech companies.

  • More scrutiny for Apple (AAPL): After receiving complaints related to possible anti-competitive sales practices, the European Commission has launched an informal, preliminary inquiry into whether the company compels operators to accept terms which ensure it always gets at least as good a deal in terms of subsidies as competitors. A nine-page questionnaire sent to telecoms also asks about minimum purchase requirements and sales terms, FT reports. AAPL says it is in full compliance with all applicable laws. [View news story]
The term "Most Favored Nations" term wasn't invented by the wireless industry and it's a perfectly legal concept. I don't get the issue. It sounds like the Europeans are just trying to blame their problems on a big company.

  • How Congress Could Fix Its Budget Woes, Permanently [View article]
This seems like a Yahoo article, not a Seeking Alpha article. Very disappointing to see such naïveté and politics in the article. The author needs to study what the Fed been doing the past few years.

  • Apple's Q3: iPhone Does Well Across Price Points; Mac Defies Shrinking PC Market [View article]
Don't forget about Apple opening up a lot of its APIs. Personally, I think that will be more of a driver for the iPads than the relationship with IBM although the two go hand-in-hand. I bet the relationship with IBM was actually formalized months before the announcement and they come out with some of the new apps when the new iPads ship. Also, Apple may ship 32 GB as standard on their new iPads -- we'll see. This would effectively be a price reduction. They need to do this sometime... Between all three, Apple could really drive iPad sales.

The author was right about the earnings. Before suggesting that anybody be banned because a stock fell, I think we need to wait. His article was more about the long term than the next three days.
