  • Apple $700: Don't Get Burned Again [View article]
If Apple only releases its standard upgrades, iRadio, and a marginally lower cost phone, then the author is probably right. But if it releases unexpected innovations or new products that move the needle in addition to the above, then the author is probably wrong. The latter is probably what Apple investors are expecting.

  • Sheryl Sandberg uses a Reuters conference talk to dismiss speculation she will abandon Facebook (FB +1.1%) for a political career. The COO and Lean In author also: 1) Promises Facebook will eventually monetize Instagram, but says it's more focused on growth in the near-term. 2) States Facebook maintains "an ongoing conversation" with the Chinese government about operating in China, where its services remain banned and local players such as Sina (SINA) and Tencent (TCEHY.PK) have reeled in hundreds of millions of users. It might be better for Facebook as well. Zuckerberg should be focused on the vision. He needs a second in command focused on making money, which they don't seem to be doing a great job at,

  • Many of iOS 7's new icons were designed by Apple's (AAPL) marketing and communications unit rather than app design teams, and "there wasn’t a whole lot of communication between the various [app design] teams" The Next Web reports, while adding design work is still very much in progress. The report comes as software designers keep taking aim at iOS 7 - a parody blog titled Jony Ive Redesigns Things is one notable example. Many of those defending the revamp, such as Wired's Cliff Kuang and Quora's David Cole, argue iOS 7's "flatness" makes it well-suited for an era of interconnected apps, services, and devices, where what's going on behind the scenes matters as much as what's on a display at a given moment. The functionality and features of the apps are what is most important by far, not how pretty the actual icon is. Did you ever hear a story like "people love Apple's map app, but don't use it because the icon isn't pretty enough"?

  • Apple (AAPL) has fired the manager behind the mapping software which put a cloud over the iPhone 5 release, reports Bloomberg. Maps manager Richard Williamson was let go by Senior VP Eddy Cue, who recently was put in charge of Maps and Siri amidst a management shakeup that saw the departure of iOS chief Scott Forstall. [View news story]
One good thing about the company is that they are not afraid of getting rid of bad apples.

  • Yongye International (YONG): Is Their Story Too Good To Be True? [View instapost]
Interesting article. There are many red and yellow flags in the article. Even if just some of them are true, I'm no longer considering YONG. I sometimes have a hard time obtaining full financial info from Chinese companies.

  • iPad Refresh Will Boost Shipment Figures [View article]
I partially agree with you. I think that opening many APIs and the IBM deal will help a lot, but much of the benefit will take time. In the meantime, I think they'll either trim the pricing of some units or make 32 GB standard in their top of the line unit. Cook will do something to grow its revenues without compromising quality.

  • Is InvenSense About To Register Another Jolt? [View article]
The next quarter seems to really depend upon when its inventory buildup ships. If Apple starts shipping product with INVN product in September or early to mid October, then Invensense will not only get a revenue boost this quarter, but its inventory build will start to reverse, which will significantly help earnings regardless of the margin it makes on Apple. And presumably the margin on Apple will material.

  • Why I Believe An Alibaba Deal To Buy Yahoo Is Becoming More Likely [View article]
Alibaba probably just needs to divest of Yahoo's core holdings for an acquisition to be approved. This happens all the time with wireless carriers. For instance, BABA could sell the core Yahoo to Google or Microsoft or it could simply IPO the core Yahoo.
