  • Why We See Gold Going Lower Long-Term [View article]
My bet is on gold. Never underestimate the power of market participants' sentiment. Gold - real asset, fiat money - fake substitute. The prices will fluctuate of course but gold will always have its buyers..

  • The plunge in pending home sales is "textbook economic behavior" after the end of the home buying tax credit, Peter Boockvar says. "As with any temporary tax credit that is introduced to stimulate activity, demand gets pulled forward and is then followed by a sharp decline... it's crackpot economics on the part of our policy makers."  [View news story]
Yep, if you have to bribe people into buying stuff, your business model stinks, and can only be sustained as long as the bribes keep changing hands..No bribe (tax credit), no deal..

  • Tomorrow's nonfarm payrolls will probably show a net loss of jobs for the first time in six months. But before hitting the panic button, keep this in mind: The figure reflects the end of up to 250,000 temporary census jobs, and the number that should matter is how many net jobs private employers created.  [View news story]
If the markets' history is any guide, it's way better for one's financial health to hit the panic button sooner rather than later. I went all cash yesterday, anyway..

  • China may pump hundreds of millions of euros into Greece even as other investors run the other way. The Greek government also is courting China for other projects, including a huge new distribution center near Athens, a monorail line, five-star hotels and a new maritime theme park.  [View news story]
It looks like China is investing for the sake of investing, the profitability metrics be damned..One day this "strategy" will start crashing down around them..

  • How big is the coming CRE crash? "Huge," says Wilbur Ross, who recommends "extreme caution" before putting money in. "All of the components of real estate value are going in the wrong direction simultaneously. Occupancy rates are going down. Rent rates are going down and the capitalization rate - the return that investors are demanding to buy a property - are going up."  [View news story]
There's an article in the Canadian newspaper (G&M) today regarding the current state of CRE, and, the things are said to have improved so much that there's hardly any attractively priced properties left out there. In Canada, anyway, but even in the States matters seem to be improving..Whom to believe, that's the question - as usual..

  • Black Swan author Nassim Taleb says today's crisis is "vastly worse" than the 1930s, because global economies have become uncontrollably intertwined. The NYU professor of risk engineering says gold, copper, and other assets "that China will like" are the best investment bets.  [View news story]
If everything is so bad how can anyone expect commodities to go up in price and therefore be good investment bets? Doooom!!! 8))
