GDX: A Catalyst for Junior, Emerging Miners [View article]
And if nothing else, van Eck has done a bit of your DD and research in coming up with this list that you could use to choose which of these you'd want to add to your own portfolio. I would probably do a bit of sub-dividing and come up with a list of those who are actual producers and those that just own a desirable large deposit somewhere. And right now, the only addition to my own portfolio would be in the mid tier gold producer category. Northgate Minerals and Great Basin Gold were in fact added this past week and I'd be fibbing if I said this list from van Eck didn't partially influence my decisions. It's a good list that offers a great place to start looking for viable juniors that you may choose to invest in, either by buying into this ETF itself when it comes online or by looking these companies over and doing further DD BEFORE you actually invest and choose only those YOU like. Hey...if it's good enough for van Eck, it should be good enough for just about anyone.
ALEXCO Resource Corp. - AXU - Search here at S.A. They've done a number of write-ups on this outstanding up & coming company.
AXU is a Canadian silver miner with an environmental services company thrown in for good measure. Currently developing the Bellekeno silver mine in the Keno Hills mining district in the northern Yukon, which they were AWARDED (exploration & development with NO prior liabilities) by the Canadian government, in addition to a multi-million dollar mine cleanup/remediation contract in the same area. Anyway....why YOU want to own some of their stock:
May 14th - AXU dips to $1.27
May 22nd - AXU hits/closes @ $1.97 (Today it closed at $2.04)
POTENTIAL PROFIT: .70 per share or 55.1%!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree. Great article too! Except to say, what does anyone (still) see in CDE?? FOR THE SAME MONEY, try Alexco Resources (AXU) which has been written about extensively here at S.A. You want a chance at some future share price appreciation with an up and coming silver explorer/producer with some true BLUE SKY POTENTIAL? Or do you want to ride around that tired ol horse called CDE that can't find it's way out of the....mine?? Compare em both and I'd bet you'd agree.

No mention of Alexco or MAG Silver? Though their share price isn't a match for SLW, PAAS or SSRI, IF there happens to be a downside move, these two wouldn't (in theory) move as far in that direction. AXU has been mentioned in Seeking Alpha numerous times and now that they're all cashed up, thank to a deal with Silver Wheaton some months back, and on their way towards production, you definitely have to take a look at them. MAG could be the object of a takeover, not to mention they have an excellent resource there in sunny old Mexico, with the drills continuing to turn. Other than that, the author's right about a limited selection of QUALITY silver miners available to those in the know about silver stocks....
