This author needs to understand what regulation is first. Regulation is the application of rules. Now, what government does is to apply arbitrary rules. In that case, the regulation is unfruitful and in fact is very detrimental to the free market. As we arrive back at free market capitalism, we see that the rule of law prevails and not the arbitrary rules that are against property rights and individual rights. From these rights stem free enterprise, free markets, free trade, and the best school of all, which is, "Leave us alone!".

It was Freddie and Fannie that got the ball rolling. The author wants to make it sound like it was a bunch of mathematics that caused the problem. Behind mathematics is philosophy. And it was the financial institutions that were willing to change their philosophy to accomodate the false theories that led to the erroneous mathematics.

There is some truth to the article. But the question is: How much? Even though some big names have taken postitions in Valero, the amount seems reasonable for those big names to take given the companies operations and industries. However, when it comes to oil, there is going to be more equipment needed, good prices for continued investment, and easier supplies if the prices do drop. Hence, prices will not drop much.
