Why Should I Own Gold?

TIPs are linked to the governments phony numbers. If you want a hedge against REAL inflation, then gold is better than TIPs.

Time to Buy and Hold Gold

There's a lot of gold bulls around now. Makes me a bit nervous, but the gold bashers here make me feel a little safer. I've been holding gold bullion since about $600/oz, but I don't see any fundamental reason to sell now. Jewelry demand is down, but investment demand is up. Inflation will get worse in the near term, say the next few years, as energy prices have yet to fully filter in to the overall economy. Also, Asia is selling U.S. T-Bills and buying alternatives, including gold.

Gold will surely go down at some point, but probably not for a while.
