As I see it, in a normal bank, the reserve reflects only a portion of the deposits. Thus, on any one day, only a portion of depositors will withdraw their money. To be conservative, the reserve must reflect some swings.
So, in short, the reserve is a necessary amount. It also helps to buffer extreme volatility in the bank's liabilities. The reserve is a required element for banking.
Bring in the shadow banks. They skirt around the reserve requirement. So, why is it everyone else's responsibility to bail out the shadow banks?

Any new insights into URRE? I heard lots of disruptions in (sxr)Uranium One. I can see almost all uranium juniors are way way off their highs. Anyone who believes in uranium should be loading up the truck, as I'm about to do. Just not sure who is at or near production and not Cameco. Any insights on Strathmore (STM.V)? Seems like both Strathmore and Uranium Resources are about the best two plays as I can see.
