There are many types of rigs, and many of the drilling companies do put together their own land rigs for use due to their relative simplicity. For the more complicated offshore drillships and floaters, they are built in a shipyard. So, one could Google "shipbuilders" and come up with a list of companies involved in building the high-dollar rigs.
