  • Diversification Fallacies, Part 1: Asset Allocation [View article]
Dane thank you for this point of view. I have been doing the hard work of finding investments that could give me income and withstand the volatile market. In the last correction my portfolio had some down turn, so I bought more. The value is almost back to it original point. I have learned to buy investments with solid management in sustainable industries. Reading the articles on this site have helped me tremendously.
I am looking forward to you next piece.

  • Equity CEFs: Which Funds Have A Real Return Of Capital? (Part II) [View article]
I have been on CEF Connect. I have not found an explanation of the terms and what to look for when considering CEFs. I see the ratios, charts and numbers, but I want to know what they mean as far as how the fund is being run, and what are the warning signs to sell and signs to buy. Maybe I missed something on that page.

    Doug
I have been reading your articles and studying CEF for a couple of months. I have also looked at your qualifications and it seems you are qualified to write these articles. As a soon to be reitred person, I am intersted in the dividends officered by these funds. I have been looking for criteria for chosing CEFs for the risk reward formula. I have read about ROC, UNII, premium vs discount, positive and negitve return on NAV (which is confusing still). Can you guide me to a reference source that talks about these and other factors in chosing CEFs? All of the articles I read inidcate a person has to conduct additional research before purchasing any investment. I am looking for the place to research and the meaning of some of the terms.
    Any help will be appreciated.

This is the best article and string of comments I have come across since I started looking into CEFs. I will be retiring at the end of the year and I am looking for income investments to put my 401k funds into. Thank you all for the insights and suggestions of web sites for research.

I am looking to build a portfolio to create retirement income. I have been saving in an IRA since 1986 and it is not worth much, due to common investor errors. I look forward to educating myself and learning patience.
