Check the ABT web site for press releases (or the ABT page here at SA)...there have been numerous press releases/announcements about the split and the dividend for each going forward, etc.
ABT has been nothing but grim death for me. This stock is trading like some big institutional guys know some more bad news is coming down the pipe (or think they know) and are fading a lot of big positions in it. Either way, it's not a stock I want to be in right now...I have migrated most of my ABT position into GSK and TEVA, and at the slightest hint of a move up in ABT (if such a thing ever occurs again), the rest of my ABT position will be gone, too. Yes, I might regret it later, but I'll save a lot of $ on antacid and some wear and tear from grinding my teeth in the meantime.
I'm long ABT also, and just added a bit, *but* great company or not, ABT wouldn't be the first "great company" that the market insisted on hating, whether the hatred is rational or not. I'm hanging on for now, but I'm starting to wonder if that's just me being stubborn instead of me "thinking long term".
