All airlines will eventually charge baggage fees, that's a given. But it should be done equitably. In Europe, luggage is charged by weight (as the author suggests Delta should do here in the US). Those that use more fuel to haul around their overstuffed luggage across the skies should have to pay more, it's fair. It will keep fares lower for everybody, why should I have to pay higher fares to haul around your luggage?
Domestic carriers will try to throw everything at us, including the kitchen sink, to wring out as much cash as possible before switching over to a realistic pay-by-weight scenario.
