Microsoft vs. Apple: Monopolist vs. Innovator [View article]
APPLE: MacBook Pro 15.4 inch, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2-800 RAM, 250 GB Serial ATA 5400 RPM Hard Drive, 8x DVD, iSight integrated webcam, Nvidia GeForce 9400M + Nvidia 9600M GT with 256 MB RAM
$1999.00
DELL:
Precision Mobile M4400 15.4 inch, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2-800 RAM, 250 GB Serial ATA 7200 RPM Hard Drive, 8x DVD, integrated webcam, Nvidia FX 1700M with 512 MB RAM.
$2122.00
AND I had to go to a Dell business series of laptops to get a 15.4 inch screen with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
The argument that Macs are more expensive does not hold water when comparing apples to apples, so to speak. Even considering the slight differences the two might cost the same.
Microsoft vs. Apple: Monopolist vs. Innovator [View article]
"A Mac normally costs twice as much as a PC with similar processing power"
Pure fiction. Configure a Dell laptop with the same specifications (processor, speed, memory, graphics engine, hard drive, optical drive, etc) as the cheapest Apple MacBook Pro as I did online and.....myth busted!!! The Apple is over $100 cheaper.
Cramer's Stop Trading! Goldman Has Nothing Better to Do (12/15/08) [View article]
Goldman Sachs reported a loss of $2.1B today. Looks like they have fantastic insight into the market..... wink! wink! nudge! nudge! Time to fire their analysts, especially the ones covering Apple. One check in California at any Apple Store provides enough reason why Apple will not only weather this storm but will come out of it stronger and in a better position market wise. They are cash strong with no debt. Few companies can say that.
iPod Sales Only 14.2% of Apple's Q4 Total Revenue [View article]
jakw just does not get Apple, or more likely does not own AAPL. BTW if you don't own stock, why stick your 2 cents in? Go comment on some MSFT blog and stop trolling with negative comments.
Jobs Has Sold His 10 Million iPhones [View article]
Joel, Perhaps you forgot that Jobs said he would sell 10M by the end of 2008 when the 1st generation iPhone came out. By my count, 6.1M (Edge) + 6.9M (3G) = 13M with 3 months to go!
Can Apple Withstand the Financial Sector's Fall? [View article]
I will have to say this again. If you want to see the 'health' of Apple go to an Apple store. The one at Valley Fair in San Jose was very crowded with people at 8 PM last night. That's right, on a Tuesday! No other store in this popular mall has as much traffic per square foot at any time in the week. The true measure of Apple's strength is in the interest it is generating in its products and in the accessory supplier eco system it has created.
Why Apple Stock Is Poised To Go Flat - At Best [View article]
What planet did this guy come from? Is he naive or just an ostrich with his head still in the sand? If you want to take the 'pulse' of Apple you just cannot do that from a lofty chair on Wall Street or anywhere else. It's like politics, you need to get down in the grass roots. Visit an Apple store and you will understand what Apple is about. Its not about cost or breadth of products, its about "user experience". Yes they stumble sometimes but no more than any big company. How many of us have seen our companies stumble even more than Apple? The key is, they try their best to fix things and the bottom line is, their products provide a great user experience. To those who pick on people and call them names just because they like Apple or have stock I say, get a life or better yet, some therapy.
Apple Gets Top Marks in Customer Satisfaction [View article]
I have 4 Macs (2 PowerBooks, 1 iMac, and an old desktop g4 tower) and two PCs (a Dell laptop from work and a desktop I built). I never have to mess with any of the Macs, they just work. On the other hand my Dell has had 3 motherboard replacements in 4 years and the PC I built is always having some software conflict that causes it to slow down or freeze.
Apple's Problems - Bad to the Core? [View article]
"The major problems began with the release of its new Leopard Operating System. While the system works great on new Macs (where it is pre-installed by the factory) users running older machines, who tried to make the update" ....I've installed Leopard on several G4 laptops and a G4 Sawtooth (1GHz upgraded) desktop and never had any issues. It's amazing what passes for 'truth' in journalism these days.
What's Up With 3G Performance in the iPhone? [View article]
By the way, I have Sirius radio in my car and it drops out several places in my neighborhood due to trees, power lines, etc so the iPhone 3G issue may be more complex than just the AT&T network antenna placement.
What's Up With 3G Performance in the iPhone? [View article]
I thought that I might be having 3G problems since at home I get a no service message even though AT&T says I have 3G in my area. However I was in a store in a nearby town and had 5 bars for 3G and excellent performance for web browsing. That has convinced me that AT&T's network is the issue, not Apple's iPhone. If I drive around I can find holes in the service even though AT&T says that all of San Jose, CA has 3G. If people want to complain, direct it to the real culprit, AT&T.
Apple: Great Company with Lofty Valuation - Due for Pullback [View article]
NEWS FLASH, Mark - options have expiration dates so you have to 'use them or lose them'. If a lot come due at the same time, of course they will be exercised. Companies typically set fixed dates during the year for options and it may be that one of those has recently come up.
5 Reasons Not to Upgrade to the New iPhone 3G [View article]
I've had my iPhone 3G for several weeks now and initially had battery problems although my wife did not. Then I noticed that a background task was continuously running since the usage and standby time were nearly identical. Once I followed the suggestions on Apple's support site and reset my phone I have found that I have about 4 days between charges for light usage and two days for moderate to heavy usage. I initially did not want an iPhone but now I don't know how I ever got along without one, it is truly amazing.
Why Is Dell Trying to Compete With the iPod? [View article]
Again, Dell just does not get it. It's the whole package; design, human interface, software, etc., etc. How can a company that makes cheap stuff with low quality components compete with Jonathan Ive's team at Apple? My work gives me a Dell laptop and in the first two years the motherboard was replaced twice and the display once, then the hinges broke this year! This is why I have 3 Macs, several iPods and iPhones at home for my family. I would never buy a Dell product, nor would I accept one for free.
