Obama to Blame for Democrats' Meltdown of 2010 [View article]
Tax Cuts don't cause deficits, wasteful spending does.
I am a process consultant and have worked with numerous government agencies during my career. It would be nearly impossible to explain how inefficient and utterly incompetent these bureaucracies are.
One example - I worked with the USDA to design processes for a help desk. I was able to reduce their average response time from 66 days to 5 days. A big improvement, but with a private business I would expect no more than a 1 day response. Can you imagine calling American Express with a question about your bill and not getting a response for two months?
Based on my experiences with government agencies over the last 14 years, I am convinced that somewhere between 50-60% of the work they do is completely unnecessary. With the current administration's support of government unions, that percentage is rising. There is a stunning amount of unproductive paper pushing and make work. The taxes that support all of this waste are taken at the expense of productive activities.
I would love to see an administration that would stand up an independent commission to review each and every agency's functions. The precedent exists for this in the BRAC Commission that reviews military operations every 10 years.

If I am understanding it correctly, I judge ruled this week that Countrywide could not modify mortgages that were packaged into Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) because of the contractual obligations of the MBS bonds. See here:
The iPhone threat is over-blown. The iPhone has no battery life with GPS on. The iPhone has to download maps and does not have automatic routing. Garmin is more diverified than most people realize. Their real IP is in the routing logic. They make GPS devices for hunters, hikers, boaters, runners, cyclists, drivers, even GPS-enabled dog collars. Additionally, they are a major player in aviation and recently got FAA approval for a new $30,000 system that it touted as "revolutionizing" aircraft navigation. Oh yeah, they released the first detailed maps for China just in time for the Olympics. ...and those maps can be loaded onto existing Garmin GPS units. ...and there is currently no major player selling GPS in China...
