I agree that Corning is a well-run company. However, the fiber sector is not fully insulated from the recession. While the big telecom carriers are still buying, corporate sales for private networks have slowed. And yes, I agree. Demand for LCD screens will be healthy in the future but the big question is - in the near term - will GLW be able to maintain the high margins it has held for so long? I suspect that - this being a serious recession - GLW may be forced to lower prices, ie, reduced margins on LCD panels will probably end up affecting earnings. I hope to buy into GLW at some point but I'm not going to do that now. The fear of missing out on the big market comeback is not a good enough reason to buy in now. I see more pain ahead. IMHO

Malls here in Atlanta often allow businesses to operate free at lovcations within the mall. This is because they want to avoid empty places at all cost. I personally know people who have mall shops with their only rent being a small % of their profits. Simon not disclosing the terms of the Ticketmaster agreements sounds to me (IMHO) like they're looking to get some PR out of it like, "Hey, look, we have an inflow of new people."
How are these transcripts made? Are they computer generated? I love having access to these free transcripts but don't make any big decisions based on them. There are numerous errors in both wording and number figures. Listen to the conference call and read along with it. Don't just read the transcript. That's my advice to you anyway.
