  • Why I'm Anti a 'Windfall Profit Tax' on Big Oil [View article]
    Fantastic article. The oil companies and OPEC do not want us using less oil, they want us using more!!! But, if oil stays this high, they (oil companies and OPEC) know we will start seeking alternatives to oil. We do need to seek better and other ways of producing energy. Solar, wind, nuclear, ethanol, etc. Work on them all!!!
    Think about this, our government does not want us using less oil. They do not want us seeking alternatives. Why you ask???? One word, TAXES !!!! They tax our use of petroleum based energy. The more we use, the more they can waste. If we start using less petroleum, and start using more alternatives, they will lose tax money. Because alternatives will be given a tax break. It is not Big Oil or OPEC that is against us, it is our own government. They will pander us to death about wanting to seek alternatives to oil. If they were so concerned about it, why after 30 years since the last oil crisis, are we still so dependent on oil? Like everything else, follow the money, and you see who is behind this.

    They can't be doing too bad up here in NH. There is a SB here in Plastow. It is always crowded. Now, they are just finishing another SB down the road from the first, about 3 miles down the road. Business must be good if they are building them that close together.

    The author is missing the boat here. True, this is about money. But, it is not about the money OPEC or the Oil companies are making. It is about TAXES !!!!!
    Our government is making a fortune from the taxes collected on the energy we use. They do not want us using alternative energy. Because, alternatives will be tax free for "x" number of years. The more oil and natural gas we use, the more taxes they get to spend on ear marks. Both sides do not want us having solar panels on our houses, or wind turbines in our yards. Then they will not collect any taxes from it. In fact they will have to give us a tax credit for doing it. Congress is already considering raising the gas tax because we US citizens are already using less gas.
    Face it everyone, this is about Taxes, plain and simple.
