Ray--this is totally off topic, but on the topic of one of your other favorite stocks. what did you think of ESRX's earnings report, and do you plan to write an updated article on the stock anytime soon?

  • Maybe It Is A Manipulated Stock, So What? I'm Overweight Apple For 2014. [View article]
I was completely ready to sell a third of my AAPL position as a tax loss this year (my ex-broker purchased it for me at $590), but gosh darn it all, I've changed my mind. While the stock has some momentum going for it, I might as well hang on for the ride and reevaluate once it gets back into the 600s. There are worse things to happen than having to sell some of it for gains next year instead of losses this year.

  • Apple Earnings Preview: The Problem Or Challenge Is Growth [View article]
I'm one of the few who are underwater on my AAPL shares--my (ex) broker bought them for my portfolio around $590/share in Spring 2012, and I've been holding off making any decision until the end of the year.

I can't decide whether to capture the entire loss to help offset some other gains, sell some at the end of the year on the hopes that the stock will appreciate back to break-even next year, or perhaps sell some before earnings when the stock may tank again.

anyone have advice on a selling strategy (I don't do options.)? I know i'm selling at least some of my position by the end of the year, it's just a matter of figuring out the best way to go about doing it.

  • Apple: Too Cheap To Ignore? [View article]
AAPL does seem to be forming a nice base at these levels. I'd be a buyer right now if I didn't already have a full position!

yes, GD's yield is around 3%--on yahoo too. I agree that shares of defense stocks may very well take a dip in the next month or two. but I will hopefully pick up some at a discount rate.

my AAPL holding on the other hand is at a full allotment right now, and unfortunately a bit underwater. I'm curious what other AAPL owners who bought in the past year, but my plan is to hold til Dec 2013 and then perhaps sell it off to offset gains.

  • Apple Is Dirt Cheap And Should Be Bought [View article]
when you say you expect AAPL will reach a "normal" valuation when the news dies down, what price range do you assign to that?

    RS-

    good to have you back!

my (ex)-broker bought AAPL for me last spring in the high 500s, so I'm now about 25% below what I bought it at. even though I still believe in the company's fundamentals, I don't know whether the stock price will reflect that for some time. I'm not planning on selling my shares until the end of the year to offset gains, but at that time, I'm not afraid to take a loss if my money is better off elsewhere. I don't want to sit on it hoping someday I'll make that money back. obviously a lot can happen in 11 months, but do you have any thoughts for current shareholders who are underwater on their Apple stock?
