  • 5 Good Dividend Plays [View article]
VZ is hands down better than T except debt levels remains high for both!

CTL is the place to be for divy's in telecom.

BP gives you the advantage of appreciation through the falling dollar. Stock buybacks with large floats like XOM or CVX may not be as advantageous in this economy as in the past. I'll take the "bird in hand"!

  • 25 Reasons We Will Not Have a Depression [View article]
My problem is one cannot make an informed opinion when one cannot believe the economic numbers published by all the gov't agencies.

I do know that the consumer is not the answer to the recovery.

Does anyone but me notice that economists are ignoring the velocity of money? Flat BECAUSE THE BANKS ARE SITTING ON THE MONEY and each time the money does go around the "circle" more and more taxing authorities take a bigger piece through hidden fee's (LEARNED FROM THE AIRLINES?)

Optimism is nice but facts are real! Be afraid be very afraid!!!!!!

  • Investing in High-Yield Dividend Stocks [View article]
Percentage of earnings as dividends depends on what type of company.
REIT's payout 90% to keep their tax exempt status.
MLP's payout high dividends as well.
Owning growth companies is for the young (and foolish?)
As we get older and looking for an income stream we want money not hopes and promises. Too often the large corporations pay their exec's excessive salaries plus bonuses and damned be the shareholders. Think AIG, Citi GM and all the others that we had to bail out.
Established high dividend aristocrats pay from 20-40% of earnings.
If you are a dividend oriented investor you should try Dividend Detective for a few months. ($15/mo. And you can quit anytime.) It is very easy to read and packed with most listed dividend stocks.
I also subscribe to High Yield Investing = Carla Pasternak has some good ideas but as always you have to do your own due diligence.
I sell covered calls on some of my stocks to enhance the income. With any luck you can get 12% - 14% / yr. on a stock like Verizon.

  • The Unsustainable Lie of Inflation [View article]
I have some swampland for you!!!!!!
You have no idea how high your taxes are including all upfront fed, state, local plus misc.fee's attached to utilities, gas etc.
When the gov't can't tax you upfront they devalue the dollar - which is the same as an ILLEGAL TAX.

  • Don't Believe Long-Term Oil Forecasts [View article]
    Wake up y'all!

The politicians have ignored our energy problem for decades since the first "oil shortage".

The car companies already make nat. gas vehicles in other countries.

No amount of "technology" is going to help in the near term except nat. gas!

We are being dismantled systematically - remember Rome?

A real insult is that China just mandated lng/nat. gas stations And what their gov't wants they get quickly!!!!

Sure wish we could prosecute some congressmen?

  • Are High Dividends Sustainable? [View article]
Since I am older than dirt I have changed my investment attitude immensely. The preached wisdom is that seniors need to be very conservative and invest in "safe" low dividend stocks? Hogwash!!
Seniors need to have short term goals and change quickly with the market.

When I buy any stock I am investing (loaning) my money to the company. Am I to trust them to grow the company so I can get a return? In good economic times maybe! Of course that is after they give top managent their cut and squander what they can!

In these uncertain times show me the money. Cliff Watchel has it right and even Peter Schiff.
Pick 12 high dividend stocks with a good smattering of foreign dividend payers like from Canada to protect against the falling dollar and watch your basket of eggs like they were gold!

If 1 out of 12 has a problem you have 8.33% at risk easily covered by the other 11 divy stocks.

Give me a better idea in these uncertain times for oldsters?

  • Are High Dividends Sustainable? [View article]
Please don't lump REIT's (Uncle Sam) into your catch all methodology. As long (forseeable future) as the fed has to keep interest rates at near zero I will sock away the dividends. Go NLY, HTS, AGNC Go!!!!!!!!
