Energy Firms Should Look to U.S. Shale - Barron's [View article]
If you want a company that is developing at least a few of the other mentioned things in the comments above, look at GRH. A startup, but read about it...with emphasis on who the CEO is! Also notice that they are the only company in the US that can import Wind Turbines from China. Could be worth a real hard look. In keeping up the tradition of my last post, I am long and a shareholder of GRH. I love the story, the excitement surrounding their businesses and the Management!

Devon Energy is cheaper than St. Mary Land & Exploration. Devon is less risky and if you think the company has already grown, you don't know Larry NIchols very well. If you want to speculate, look at SandRidge. The company is way below it's 52 week and for that matter all time high. Was founded by the co-founder of CHK and is one that looks like a no-brainer to me. Having said that, I do not own a share as I am not sure we have seen the bottom on any of these oil and gas stocks short term.

Finally lets look at he receivables over the next couple of quarters and see how they change. The one risk factor I see here is there is a chance of a higher default rate this year do to weather related conditions. However, this company was one that was singled out as a company that could prosper because of the disaster. I am not sold on that idea, but who am I but a guy posting on Labor Day weekend when I sould be fishing!

It is normal in China for accounts receivable to be both high and long. Why? Let's take CAGC for example. My question to PNIN is did you read the entire filing before posting? I ask that sincerly as I asked the company the same question. Guess what? They extend the farmers credit when they purchase fertalizer and get paid after the crops have been harvested and sold. My grandfather owned a chain of Hareware stores in west Texas and did the same thing for the farmers there. He knew he didn't have a chance of selling a new refrigerator or a new aything for that matter, because the farmers had no money during planting season. They had expenses like, irrigation, machinary, the crews that worked and had to help plant, fuel, not too mention the seed and fertilizer itself. He extended them credit until their crops came in. He had less than 1% default rate. Please look at the filing again for both companies and see what the default rate is. Then compare to a US company in the same business that is public and post which of the two has the largest default rate. It would be a great excersize for anyone wanting to know customary business practices in China. We Americans could learn a few things from these old time philosophies.

Please accept my apologies to my learned readers of this comment. The grammatical errors and mis-spellings were awful in my comments and believe me...I know better. My mother would slap my face for those spelling mistakes.

My thoughts are in-line with the author's. I have followed GRH since inception. It began reporting before trading and a friend told me it was Gary Evan's Company. I took a chance and called the corporate office and talked to Mr. Evan's. He said it would take a much much shorter time to create in GRH what he created Magnum Hunter, the Oil and Gas company that was started from nearly nothing and grew through Gary's smart leadership and shrewd management, into a $2.2 billion company. Yes, I agree until the company gives guidance of some kind, or a press release saying that it is shippin that bio-diesel and shipping it profitably, I would keep a speculative eye on it. However, I never wanted to miss the parade, so I got there early and am a shareholder. Doesn't matter how large or at what price. A shareholder is a shareholder. Kellogg is the Specialist...that was left out in the comments from the author. That doesn' make a deal special (pardon the pun), but that is the largest Specialist on AMEX and they don't get involved in crap...unless it is being used as alternative energy! Please excuse that last remark and for the synical, it was meant to be another pun regarding the bio-mass plant!
