Good Article. I would just add 2 points. (1) I put my investment in BX not in my stock portfolio, but in my fixed income portfolio, my dividend return based on my average cost is 7.5% (2) With fll ownership in Hilton, other Motel chains & other companies, I look at BX also as a conglomerate, which should add appreciation in value. Until that time 7.5% return on my investment is not bad.
Can eBay Capitalize on Kijiji's Potential? [View article]
Well, I use Kijiji, I have over 160 items on my Kijiji Account, and eBay does have ads at the bottom of each of the 160 + classified ads currently running. I am getting results (sales) the items I have on Kijiji are items that didn't sell on eBay . Google has its buynsellcom.com, which is free, but, it allows users to purchase "Bold" and Googles Home Page "Feature Ads" on the sight. Kijiji is far superior than Craigslist
Your article said "putting the bad business into subsidiary B, which will go insolvent, and pay little to creditors?" Sir, how do you know its all bad business? you are assuming all non-municipality busines will renege on payments. Quite an assumption? You sound like a bad news monger
I sell on eBay & Amazon, Amazon's commission is quite high to go along with their free listing. Also. eBay's Kijiji Classified Site, I noticed recently paid ads are starting to appear at the bottom of thos classified ads. All we sellers want are sales, cost of selling is secondary. What hurt sales the most, the Priority Mail increase.
Kijiji is great, use it myself, have had a few sales already. How does this sight help eBay? Theres no charges to list and when an item is sold, I havn't seen any Ads as yet. Take Google's Buy Sell Community, its free also, but, the lister has a chance to purchase "Bold" headline for $1.00, and "Featured" listing for $2.00, why doesn't Kijiji do the same? I place on Kijiji items that didn't sell on eBay, they are suppose to be for local pick up only, that doesn't happen, I had 2 sales shipped out of State and about 6 items from my area, 5 where shipped, because people just didn't want to drive, the hassle of driving 20 miles in my area would take over 2 hours, hour each way. They paid for the item via Paypal, so eBay did at least get Paypal's charge. I believe eBay has to allow "Featured" Ads for $2 or so, push Paypal payments, and get some "Ads" listed. My ads on Craigslists gets a lot of responses, but few turn into sales, whereas with Googles Buy Sell, and Kijiji, I get fewer responses, but, almost all responses turn into sales.
Imminent Visa IPO Tantalizes Investors [View article]
Remember, Mastercard's IPO was not a "sell out", it was supposed to come out at $41-$43, but lack of buyers, MA IPO'd at $39. That gave small investors, like me, to get a piece of the action. I ask for & got 500 shares. I still have them. I'm no longer a small investor. Priceless. Visa should consider offering part of its IPO to its many users, like Google did when it IPOd. What a way to cement their Credit Card with their users.
Stalwart - Too bad you didn't do some research before posting an opinion. No mention of Googles BuySellCom or Yahoo!Classifieds. Craigslist is popular, but, my experience ineffective, out of every 10 inquiries (I'm interested eMails, I's say only 2 become sales) with Google, its just the opposite, 8 out of 10 become sales. Craigslist is not as easy to post & repost, when reposting you have to upload the images again, not so with Google, Kijiji just started, we'll have to see how expired posts are handled on Kijiji. With Goodle, you punch "repost" & its done. With Craigslist, after uploading the photos again, you never know if the photos will be posted, not all uploads make it to the Ad, they have some scanning problems. Try getting ahold of anyone at Craigslist, Googles & the few message I sent to Kijiji have been answered. Google is world wide, Craigslist & Kijiji are just local. eBay has the buyers, most of them, but as a seller, I can't keep listing items that didn't sell on eBay, so I put them on the free Classified ad sites, on Google, they offer, if you want. premium services, very inexpensive, every time I sell an item from Google, I usually then buy a premium service ($1-$2) on another item to me its only fair. Local newspapers in my area also offer, with restrictions, free classified ads, the only one Yahoo!Classifieds is out of this planet, they want $9.95 for a Merchandise Classified Ad. A winner, on Craigslist, Google, & also I guest on Kijiji is Paypal, people just don't like traveling, in my area Phoenix to SunCity West, is 20Miles, but it takes on average one hour both ways, back and forth, most of my sales to Phoenix area, I get paid by Paypal and I ship..US Postal rates within a State are way cheaper, almost half on 2 pds & over.My Opinion, Google's Buysellcom is the big winner, Kijiji better focus on competing with them, offer low cost premium services, posting paid ads on the site, promoting Paypal, and in my opinion, its not going to take that much business away from eBay Amen..I.m not an analyst, but I would use a product before I commented on it.
