Where Is the Puck Going to Be in 2009? [View article]
I was a buyer & seller on eBay for 9 years and I used to just be in love with the whole experience. Now, it's like a bitter divorce, and I can't think of any condition under which I'd come back.
Customer loyalty? I can't tell you how many sellers who have been on eBay for 10+ years have left them. Remember emovieposters (Bruce Hershenson)? I won't sell on eBay anymore, and I WAS a long time, loyal seller and buyer, but no more. Anyone who asks, (and sometimes even if they don't ask), I steer them away from eBay. Hell hath no fury like an eBay seller scorned.
I USED to just love eBay. I really, really loved it. Now, after the changes they have made I refuse to either buy or sell there any more. John Donohoe has ruined what was once a unique and fun place to do business and has turned it into a non-responsive monolith that holds their sellers in contempt.
eBay has lost it's glow and is now but a slowly fading ember of it's former self. I will do all my holiday buying (and selling) anywhere else but eBay. They have slowly killed the goose that laid the golden eggs (i.e. their sellers) and now have to live with the consequences of their indifference to the people who helped build them.

After many years of buying and selling on eBay, I am through with it and do not plan on coming back. I will gladly support other on-line sales venues and help THEM grow their businesses, but no more eBay! It has become untenable for most sellers.
It's nice to hear from someone who seems to have the intelligence to really get what's going on, Dinah.
I'm so tired of people talking about eBay as if the year was 2002 instead of 2008. Video Professor, anyone?
I am so glad I left a few months ago. I don't miss the tiny amount I made in profit, but I also don't miss the stress and frustration that went with it. I will never buy or sell on eBay again, even if they are the only place on the internet. Good riddance to a bad company.
