  • Stupid Is as Stupid Does: The SEC and CFTC Legalize Electronic 'Gambling' [View article]
puts and calls are derivative instruments that enjoy tremendous volume and liquidity precisely because they are bought and sold in an open market with margin regulations and backing by the OCC...CDS have value to the market place, but they need to be accounted for and margined correctly and have counter party risk backed by a 3rd party organization.

The market is behaving in a manner consistent with hedge fund liquidations and mutual fund cash outs. There is no money coming in seeking value, partly due to the high demand for cash, and high fear levels.
Though we may go lower, the risk/rewards factors are tilting heavily to the buy side. It seems the market has discounted almost everything but a mega depression.

nice article Jeff. Over simplification of extremely complex problems causes a lot of bad judgement....I heard a speaker on Bloomberg this morning talking about his grandfather working as a peddler in the market crash of '29..."serves those fat cats right" he said, ...one year later he's out of work and his business has collapsed.
