  • Sucker's Rally Approaching an End [View article]
I reckon a bit of a correction, then we will climb the "wall of worry".
Buy stocks that are levered to benifit from a rising market such as asset managers.

Fed can print money to pay off the debt. Result = recovery, probably before the rest of the world!

  • If Market Falls on Earnings, Bottom More Likely [View article]
Everyone is talking about one final big sell off before hitting bottom. Thats there reason for not being long now.
What if it doesn't happen? alot of people will lose alot of money by not being in. Thats how Buffett has built such a big fortune, he is always in the game. Whereas others are always trying to trade in and out trying to outsmart the market. Sure Buffet looks silly for being 40% down but in a few years he could be 100% up. Meanwhile doomsayers will still be on the sidelines saying, "its just a bear market rally, wait for the low"

Still like dfs, but it won't take off until the economy improves and charge offs come down.

  • Credit Card Issuers and Processors - How They're Faring in the Crisis [View article]
I've seen a lot of articles like this. Visa and Mastercard are wonderful, the rest are crap.....
Thats why Visa trades at 20xp/e and dfs trades at 3xp/e.
The question is not which is the better company but which is the better investment.
Considering dfs network volume has doubled since 2004, i'd say 3xearnings makes this a better investment

  • Encouraging Similarities to the End of the 1973-4 Bear Market  [View article]
Agree, that the causes are different but the reaction from investors is the same. March lows should hold, especially if some big banks can report profits next month (or smaller right downs!)

  • Alliance Bernstein: Managing to Make Money [View article]
Hi Paul, i have recently made a significant investment in AB. I scoured the market for the most beaten down stock without the debt risk of the banks, i also would like a bit of an income in the meantime. A stellar history of earning increases is important too. What you have in AB is a company in a great industry with low capital expenses. In twenty years the stock went from $1 to $90, now back to $14. Doesn't sound much different to many companies except when you consider AB has also payed out all its profit to unit holders, if you add that (over $30 in the last 11 years alone), you get the true picture of how good this company is. The last bear market only knocked the stock down in the 30's, the fact that it is in the teens show how undervalued it really is.
However lots of advisors don't seem to appreciate it, the Motely Fool told people to buy it at $70 and issued a sell at $17. This is ridiculous. Buy now at the bottom of the cycle in earnings and ride back up

  • Gurus Say a Bottom Is in: Do We Listen? [View article]
Only way out of this mess is to reflate. This will boost stocks massively. Wanna be in a deposit account earning 2-3% when inflation is roaring?
When people on maintstream catch on and pile back in the rally will have real legs. My favourite stock right now is AB, its like having leverage to any rally without taking out a loan!

  • Financial Times Debunks Citi's Memo [View article]
All the big banks are posting record revenue. Its becasue the small banks are failing and its a flight to the "too big to fail" institutions.
I think the FT article is right, its highly suspicous that this was an internal memo not an official trading update. I suspect it was to avoid an SEC probe if it turns out to be BS.
Interesting readers don't like your photo Tyler, looks like they only trust men in suits....like Madoff...

  • Are Stocks Actually Cheap (And Is This a Good Time to Buy)? [View article]
Things never look good at the bottom, otherwise it wouldn't be a bottom. If you wait for the economy to improve you will be 6 months too late and probably miss a 50% rally.

  • Stock Markets Likely to Fall Further [View article]
Well we are heading for capitulation i believe, not long ago their was still plenty of bullish talk, thats all gone now so we can't be too far from the bottom.
Asuming 2010 recovery, market could bottom in the next 3 months. I noticed JPM and BAC talking about a profitable quarter, any result that are actually a profit from a large bank will see the market shoot up
