Why is gold valuable?

There are some things that naturally evoke positive feelings in people, perhaps somewhere deep in the human psyche.

Blue sky is one of these things. Flowing water is another. Lush vegetation. Flowers. And gold.

Gold is beautiful, there is no way around it. When beautiful women wear gold they become even more beautiful.

As long as gold remains scarce, people who lack gold but possess other items of value will be willing to exchange those items for gold.

Will Gold Stock Earnings Surprise Anyone?

I don't like to be critical but this is pretty superficial stuff. Trying to predict whether gold miner earnings will exceed expectations based upon whether they have in the past. Talk about looking in the rearview mirror.

J.S., I think a break-down of your risk-reward calculation would have been more valuable than a cautionary criticism of other 'treat of the week' analysts (though no doubt the criticism is valid).

Do we know any more details? Isn't fuel one of the largest costs for miners? Couldn't miners stand to benefit from lower fuel prices.
