    Great summary. And I agree with your thesis that government actions will be an increasingly important factor in the energy sector, greatly benefiting alternative energy companies.

    The next micrsofts and amazons are going to come from the alternative energy field, not so much as a result of market forces but due to new legislation and regulation.

    What investors are missing from this article is a paragraph about some of the major players in solar and which of them have a presence in the US.

    Solar power can be applied in large generating stations but, as opposed to wind, solar power can also be produced by the average home, factory, warehouse owner in a way that induces the small-scale borrowing that banks so desperately need. We could even have a new institution akin to Fannie and Freddie (call it Sofie Mae - Solar Federal Mortgage Association) to buy loans secured by solar panels, package them up and sell them off.
