Apple is making a profit through the software upgrade from iTouch users which are non-subscription based in revenue. 2.0 software was delayed as it was an essential update to support applications from SDK developers. If Apple were to completely charge for the updates, then it would undermine the Application store.

Didn't the latest quarter conference call state that Apple wanted to steer from focus on netbooks? But they are watching. I believe Steve mentioned that the iPhone was a competitor to it's a "mobile computer" already. Macbooks delivers 30% margins as well as other products. Can netbooks deliver 30% magins for Apple? It'll put Apple in the lower end of their image.
Verizon is constrained on capacity for DSL infrastructure. They do not offer above 3Mbps and 1.5Mbps is the norm. I am speculating in a few years, Verizon will sell their whole stake of Verizon Wirelss to Vodaphone. Telco companies need a narrow-minded one-way vision in their corporate mindset. Can't do too many things at once.
