I would note that Stryker (SYK) declared transitional dividends to move from annual to quarterly payments. As a result, they've increased for the second time this year and next year's increase is booked. Granted, yield is still 1% but it has grown 52% from 2008 to 2009 and another 20% to 2010.

Do you have a better opportunity for the capital? How will you replace the income?

If you ignore capital values and focus on the income to support you through retirement, then this suggest you should hold. Maybe starting to increase your position in bonds will reduce risk. But in the end, your dividends yield better than bonds anyways. ]]> Wed, 16 Sep 2009 08:55:13 -0400
