  • iRobot IPO vs. WowWee's Pseudo IPO [View article]
    iRobot has robots to clean your pools, to clean your gutters, to vacuum your house, to mop your floor, to sweep your shop, to keep an eye on your kid, to defuse bombs, for military recon, and for public safety professional recon.

    These are useful, cost effective utility-bots. They do dull, dirt, dangerous things, chores that people would rather avoid, for a pretty low price. WowWee has a small line up of expensive toys. Besides, have you seen the Rovio? It's freaking scary.

    With immigrant labor harder to find and upper middle class households no longer able to afford housekeepers, and the growing strain on the military and increased need for surveillance, there will be a lot of demand for these products that iRobot develops.

    The author disclosed he is long OPMR. Is he also one of the many people short IRBT? The article seems extremely biased. Kick-back biased.

    I second the others, I would like a why with the what. Post your thesis for purchasing the stock and why you think it will/won't keep performing. Also your take on why it was succesful thus far this year would be helpful.

  • Slow Start for Lithium-ion Hybrids [View article]
    Natural gas has good potential. In the long run, it's only a stop-gap. However, that stop-gap could be 30-40 years, and by then who knows what the best battery tech will be. We could have cold fusion powered cars by then, haha. Even if lithium doesn't get put into cars, demand will still increase because of its use in electronics. Also, SQM is not a 1 trick pony.

    I am concerned that the major lithium deposits are in Chile, Peru, and China respectively. China has had some foresight and created tight trading relationships with Chile and Peru. I'd hate to see us transition from Oil Wars to Lithium Wars. That's another reason I like natural gas.

    I think the best bet is to invest in natural gas as well as lithium. I think will go with CLNE, SQM, ENS, and ALTI together as a high risk 5 year package.

    Are their other good lithium mining companys, or companies that produce both NiMH and Li-Ion batteries?

  • Will Global Events Keep Oil Above $100? [View article]
    @DrT,

    Good point. Pickens was right then, we should be using natural gas as fuel. Damn, I was hoping oil would drop a bit more and relieve some buying pressure from SQM. I wanted a bargain before I buy in :)

    I'm trying to figure out why DSX is continuing to fall in value. It looks good to me. Oh well, decreased price made the yield even higher.

  • Nvidia Admits to Underestimating AMD [View article]
    A correction to my last comment: I meant "ATI and AMD are Saturn to Nvida and Intel's Ferrari". Not 'ATI & NVIDIA are Saturn to Nvidia & Intel's Ferrari' which makes no sense. :)

  • Nvidia Admits to Underestimating AMD [View article]
    In the gamer-enthusiast and high-end PC hobbiest communities, ATI & AMD have long been associated with better bang for the buck (value) while Nvidia and Intel have been associated with top-end performance. ATI & NVIDIA are Saturn to Nvidia & Intel's Ferrari. Also, GPU manufacturers have been leapfrogging each other's tech since the beginning of GPU manufacturing. This market also has intense brand loyalty. I'm not handing the game over to AMD based off of one single product in one single quarter. NVDA is also incorporating physics processing into their GPU lineup, and buiding top-end mobile GPUs. NVDA, INTC, and AMD are all expanding their potential markets, and have slightly different target demographics. Now if only NVDA hadn't pulled a Microsoft and lost tons of money on their hardware because of warranty costs resulting from using a shoddy manufacturer in an effort to save a buck That came back to bite them in the ass.
