my apologies to mad hedge; I hit the wrong button. I tend to agree with his statement. Just watch your stop limits, and if you don't have them, get them.
Penn West Energy: Too Good to Be True? [View article]
The article fails to mention that the canroys will all be converted to taxable corporations in 2011 with potentially serious repercussions to the business model. The canadian govt also takes 15% off the top for non canadian share holders and if held in an ira, you've been taxed, but not represented. The 28% yield is due primarily to the drop in share price from the mid thirties a year ago to single digits today. Yea, what's the problem??? Too good to be true it is.
Super Tankers and Super Volatile Oil Prices [View article]
Good article, somewhat substantiated by Eugene Bukoveczky's 'contango' article published today by investopedia, but with better math. The tanker industry is, can be and has been quite perplexing over the last decade. The best predictor, for some obscure reason, on stock price is the price of crude. That doesn't look good for FRO, but their management is very creative in times like this. I would not short at these levels. It would be interesting to know what rates the tankers were getting for storage. Has to be less than transport w/ no bunkers or crews to pay for.

For US investors they have already cut dividends by 20% with the weak loonie. Re most analysts opinions, it looks like one, it smells like one and I am glad I did not step in it.
Frontline's Earnings Do Not Paint a Clear Picture [View article]
Single hull oil tankers are to be phased out end of 2010. That will aleviate the capacity issue, hopefully. New Build cancellations will also play in here to support viable rates.
.5$ is still over seven percent. Mr Fredrickson knows cash is king. We'll be better off for it later. SFL increased their div by 2c. Now over 20%. SDRLF not paying for a while. GDOCF ??
General Motors: Beginning the Endgame? [View article]
Blame it on the MBA's. These dogass do nothing, know nothing, but I'm in charge, a-holes can run any and every company they touch down the toilet. The fed ex commercial with the guy wanting to ship something and the admin trying to tell him how to do it, until he says, quite condenscendingly, "I have an MBA" to which she replies, "Oh, well then let me show you how to do it", says it all.
The guy who wants US auto cos to import the 'womanish' (is that a word?) Fiats probably has an MBA.
US automakers actually make something rather than banks who merely provide a service. BK for auto is very bad for economy as it ripples down thru millions of people involved. More critical to overall well being of country to provide some backing and prevent BK. Worked really well for chrysler in the 80's.
Ship Finance: Record Breaking Transaction Is Impressive in Today's Market [View article]
SFL is one of the John Fredrickson companies. They are truly unique in that earnings are distributed as dividends. The mainstay is Frontline, FRO, not the pet pesticde. There are about a dozen others that deal in transportation, food production, deep sea drilling, etc. I've owned them for years and am much better off for it. I believe that Mr F has a business model that should be emulated globally. He, unlike most CEO's, has a stake in his companies. If they do well, so does he and his shareholders. If they do badly he doesnt get paid. He owns roughly 40% of stock in all of them.
