If they drill 140 new wells in 09 there is going to be an average of 100,000 barrels of water used in each of those wells or a cumulative total of 14,000,000 barrels of fresh water that has to come from some where. Not only does it get used but about 80% of it will come back up the hole in front of the natural gas and will contain salt, Arsenic, Uranium isotopes and all of the other 27 heavy metals. What are they going to do with it. There are two solutions. One and the preferred way that the oil companies like to dispose of this water is by pumping it back down what is called a Down Hole Disposal Well. This is a well drilled deep into the mantle of the earth and they pump all of this oily, salty, metal layden water down it without out any real cleaning of the water.
The other method is a technology called the Plasma Incubator Reactor Desalination System. It was developed for the Barnett Shale Slick Frac Water. This techology destroys the water but then reconstitutes it into distilled water for use in another well. It also produces Hydrogen gas as a byproduct and it has the ability to produce its own electricity by using some of the Hydrogen and a new Electric Co-generation technology called the Bubble Gen which can produce up to a MegaWatt per 24 hours and that is the amount that the system needs to operate. This technology was developed by Cal-Neva Water Quality Research Institute of California and the Director of Research is Dr. Abe Beagles. You can read more about this on the Green Pages or eco-web dot com.
