  • Zoe's Kitchen: Cheap For A Reason [View article]
Seems to me that any analysis of a restaurant stock should include at least a passing comment on what they serve, who they serve and what sets them apart from other "fast casual joints."
Personally I prefer Peter Lynch's methodology over yours.
Not saying this is another Chipotle Mexican Grill but if you did the same analysis of CMG at this stage of development you would have said it was over valued as well. Success in business is not just about extrapolating the future from recent quarterly reports,

  • SandRidge price target cut to $0.50 with more losses ahead, Barclays says [View news story]
I guess this downgrade is no worse than putting any credence in the comments of Rex Tillerson this morning on CNBC. With a straight face he talked about where the price of oil is going. He bet Billions of $ of Exxon shareholders acquiring natural gas producers as early as 2009 and as late as 2013 was saying well, yeah, I was a little early. Too bad the interviewers are so enamored of getting "heavyweight" guests that they don't dare call them on their missteps.

  • ModernGraham Quarterly Valuation Of Facebook [View article]
    From the opening "Summary":

"The market is implying 10.15% earnings growth over the next 7-10 years, which is above the company's actual growth in recent years."

    From the "Valuation Summary"

    Earnings Per Share

    2014 $1.10
    2013 $0.60
    2012 $0.01

Sure looks to me like earnings are growing faster than that 10.15% growth the market is implying.

  • Bakken producers need $55 oil to keep production steady, regulator says [View news story]
I temper the gloom of the moment with the recollection that the last time oil dropped to these prices I scooped up shares of KOG under a fifty cents.

Tim, did I miss your comments on Oculus and some of FB's other acquisitions and what they might contribute to earnings? All I see here is an opinion piece.

I tried sending a message to the author of the report to have him post a correction but you need to have a picture and a profile in order to use their email. Perhaps someone with a picture and a profile can get him the message.

  • American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings' (AXL) CEO David Dauch on Q2 2014 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
Analysts on the call seem to be completely unaware of AXL's ventures in Brazil and Thailand which accounts for the earnings and revenue "misses". The company reports a doubling of eps y-o-y and a revenue gain well above the industry average but the stock gets punished because the analysts do a lousy job. Makes perfect sense to me.

  • American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings misses by $0.05, misses on revenue [View news story]
Fascinating that "investors" react and sell based on a company's miss vs analyst estimates instead of being impressed with year-over-year revenue growth approaching 20% and 100% increase in eps.

Come on guys, we should be paying attention to the negative views of the analysts not those contracts that are being executed daily. What is real, contracts or opinions?

  • Don't read too much into Ensco‚Äôs big new contract, analysts say [View news story]
Face it, if analysts were able to understand the fundamentals of the companies they follow and could actually forecast, revenue, earnings and cash flow, they would be making money going short and long stocks instead of spending their time revising estimates and making ill-timed calls. About all their forecasts are good for is bulletin board material for CEOs.

  • Triangle Petroleum's (TPLM) CEO Jonathan Samuels on Q1 2015 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
Just wanted to publicly thank the analyst at Global Hunter Securities for making those bargain-priced shares available last week. The downgrade was truly just-in-time.

  • Triangle Petroleum -4% on Global Hunter downgrade [View news story]
You have to love analysts. This Global Hunter analyst sits on his hands for 9 months while TPLM crosses his price target repeatedly and then a week before quarterly earnings are to be released decides the time is right to announce a downgrade since it has hit his price target. Pretty weak.
Does make one wonder if there is an ulterior motive for the downgrade

  • Hercules Offshore - Becoming A Market Leader In HPHT Drilling [View article]
This stock would not be beaten down by the shorts and high frequency traders without the collusion of analysts. These analysts have consistently lowered eps estimates quarter after quarter and continue to do so despite the fact that they have seen the company "miss" their revenue estimates but beat the eps estimates by wider and wider margins.
With the publishing of monthly fleet status reports anyone who is competent at his/her job would not have difficulty projecting earnings yet quarter 2 eps estimates range from a $0.12 profit to a loss of $0.01. Some of those estimates have zero credibility as the analyst reports an eps number but does not go on record with revenue and cash flow estimates. I do not know how you could build an eps estimate with any confidence if your model doesn't start with revenue and end with cash flow.
I put no faith in these so-called analysts unfortunately others do.
