  • Mississippian Lime: Tom Ward's 600,000-Acre Comeback [View article]
I wonder how long before we see an IPO with a prospectus touting Mr Ward's track record of building great enterprises. I wish him well, in fact, many wells and all of them dry.

  • After A Solid Fourth Quarter, SandRidge May Be Poised For Continued Growth [View article]
The trouble with government enforcement is that it punishes shareholders and not the criminals. In the final analysis, companies don't violate laws, PEOPLE do and it is those people who should suffer the consequences. Trouble is management generally is willing to plead no contest and write a big check and the enforcement agency is only too happy to offer and accept the deal rather than take on the tough task of proving that the real criminals should pay the penalty.

  • Patterson-UTI upgraded to Buy at Global Hunter despite yesterday's surge [View news story]
Just pathetic, raised the price target from $22....Just a wee bit late.

I listened in on the call and sure don't need Global Hunter to regurgitate what management said. These analysts have no shame and worse no accountability for incompetence.

  • Hercules Offshore Management Discusses Q4 2013 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
I guess the Wunderlich analyst who cut his 2013 eps estimate to $0.21 in late January didn't think it was necessary to participate in the q & a. Seems like all those analysts who cut estimates and price targets based on what they saw in the December Fleet Status Report need a course in remedial reading.

  • SandRidge to sell Gulf of Mexico business for $750M, raises output guidance [View news story]
IMO, it is a real positive that the new management is not afraid to unwind Ward's follies and bring a laser focus to building a solid E&P company.

  • Former SandRidge Energy (SD) CEO Tom Ward sold nearly 10M shares in the company after he was fired last month, bringing in ~$47M in proceeds. The sales cut Ward's position in SD, which he founded, by more than 40% to 2.7% of its outstanding shares. Upon his firing, Ward received a severance package worth more than $90M in cash and stock. [View news story]
I'd love to see Ward sell the rest of his shares now as he does not deserve to benefit from the gains that will surely come now that his personal interest is not the primary focus of the CEO and BOD.

  • Going Head To Head: ECOtality Vs. Car Charging Group [View article]
Craig, good analysis although I disagree with your conclusion. You use the higher non-member charges for costing ECTY as you believe people will not join the ECTY network Seems to me that real-time access to active and available charging station locations is a compelling reason to sign up. A cursory look at ECTY's web site and it appears that joining the network is free. Am I missing something?

  • Going Head To Head: ECOtality Vs. Car Charging Group [View article]
Yeah put me down for a fuel cell vehicle, I have no problem driving from the east coast to California to refuel at one of the 9 public refueling stations located there. Of course, at a cool $1 million cost stations will be popping up in my neighborhood any day.

  • Notable earnings before Tuesday’s open: MHR, WWW [View news story]
I would like to hear from the posters who made dire predictions when MHR fired their auditors. Reports are now filed with beats on both eps and revenue in each case and no restatements of prior periods.

Come on guys, step up and admit that your suggestions that bankruptcy was a possibility were completely WRONG.

  • SandRidge Energy (SD) +2.4% AH after naming CFO James Bennett as its new CEO and president, and appointing lead independent director Jeffrey Serota as interim non-executive chairman. Tom Ward is out, as the board decides new leadership is in the best interests of the company. [View news story]
Glad he is gone but sorry that it is not "for cause" and therefore he will be paid his severance. The man has no shame.

I stopped reading at, "The falling price has led to a 30% slide in Micron's share price since March last year."

  • Headlines focused on SandRidge (SD) management have missed a more fundamental issue which may lead to further share weakness, Josh Young writes: Well performance is much worse than expected. Permian Trust (PER) results were so bad that cash was pulled from subordinated unit distributions to fund minimum common unit distributions, which means SD's interest in the asset is generating less cash flow than expected. [View news story]
Didn't the original article by Josh Young have a big enough impact on SD? Why the need to point out an article that was posted a little more than 3 hours ago? If the stock is up on Monday will you post another comment about the comment about the stock? Why not also point to an article that highlights TPG's evaluation for balance.

Seeking Alpha normally does not in effect double post articles. It seems a little odd to be piling onto SD.

  • Gulfport's Big Utica Bet Set To Pay Off [View article]
Magnum Hunter (MHR) has a comparable NET acreage position in the Utica. MHR has been going slow letting others work out the science and just this week spud its 1st well in the Utica. If the play turns out to be prolific doesn't a company that is generally hated have more upside?

  • Global PC shipments fell 13.9% Y/Y in Q1 to 76.9M units, per IDC. That surpasses Q4's 6.4% drop and Q3's 8.6% decline, and is steep even in light of IDC's recent commentary. IDC: "It seems clear that the Windows 8 (MSFT) launch not only didn’t provide a positive boost to the PC market, but appears to have slowed the market." H-P (HPQ) was the market's leader, but its share fell 200 bps Y/Y to 15.7%. #2 Lenovo (LNVGY.PK) saw its share rise 210 bps to 15.3%, and #3 Dell's rose 40 bps to 11.8%. Apple's (AAPL) U.S. share rose 60 bps to 10%, though U.S. Mac shipments fell 7.5% to 1.4M. [View news story]
The Compaq acquisition was 11 years ago which is a lifetime in technology. HPQ lost its way when Mark Hurd spent 5 years improving eps by gutting R&D.
