  • Here's Why Natural Gas Prices In The U.S. Are Poised For A Fall [View article]
It is incredible that these companies have so much other people's money to waste.

If I owned natural gas in the ground, I would leave it in the ground until the price invariably gets better.

Why did the gas rig count just rise by 3?

If production is not falling then the producers are awfully stupid and the investors in these gas producers are even stupider.

THe price can drop to fifty cents and these drillers will still claim profits.

There is not much if any natural gas at this price.

These NG drillers are losing money and folks are still investing in them keeping them afloat.

  • Cabot Oil & Gas - Why The Recent Rally Will Continue [View article]
Cabot cannot make money at $3 or anything like that price. If the well costs 7 million dollars then the well must produce over 2 billion cubic feet to break even. And they are not getting anything like $3. THis company is losing money hand over fist. People that invest in these NG companies for the long term are in for a rude surprise.

Cabot wrote down over 700 million dollars recently. This should prove the point. And the Marcellus price has been lousy for a long time. THeir hedges cannot be all that great.

So what if they hedge? Then it makes even less sense to produce NG at a loss. As they can make money by not producing and only lose by producing.

The hedge is financial gain. Are these guys hedge funds?

And the price has been in the basement for the Marcellus for quite a while. SO they cannot even be all that hedged.

The bottom line is that if they are producing NG at a loss, they are losing money, hedged or not. And they are producing NG at a loss.

Marcellus natural gas cash price is still running under $1.50 These guys are all losing money.

And Art Berman is making the very obvious observation that it is more expensive to extract oil and natural gas from shale than conventional sources.

    OK,

In my view supply was certainly coming down. This latest spurt of investment into the drillers is problematic. If you give a driller a dollar, he will drill a hole. A whole slew of money is being drilled into the ground never to return.

I believe the actual numbers, state data and such, show supply just starting to drop.

    Pedro,

I am still not clear on what data you are using.

I agree about the money being pumped into the drillers. It is astonishing.

The coal companies are in the same position as the drillers. The price for coal is lousy. But the coal companies are cutting production. Folks are not throwing money at the coal companies to produce too much.

Apparently there is some debate as to whether production is falling. If production is actually falling, expect much higher prices.

And we are still have much less gas in storage than this same period in 2012.

Marcellus and Utica is not profitable at $2. This is proven by the fact that the companies drilling there are buried in debt.
