  • Borders Changes Around Management, Wants an Aggressive Turnaround [View article]
Jones did nothing other than cut and sell.
Sold all of Borders international arms, cut staffing, inventory and domestic growth.
Sure it paid down debt but to sustain a company during this phase somehow you have to bring traffic in.

Borders was already in the planning stages of taking their website back from Amazon when he joined and its slow success should not be associated with him.

I never understood his "To be a headquarters for knowledge and entertainment" mission for a bookstore, especially not when his strategy was cutting back.

I think the board should have made this move a lot earlier but with timely appearance of the New Year, its time to start a fresh and not from where Jones left off..

  • Did Borders.com Results Lead to Barnes & Noble Chief's Exit? [View article]
I would ask what happened with Borders stock on Monday, one of the few stocks to be up on a rough market day.
Approx 800,000 volume on an average day, soon as the bell rang in the morning there was two big spikes and resulted in 1.4 million volume on Monday.
Who bought in? or shall I say, who just bought out?

  • Borders Conversion Rates Improve [View article]
bn.com has the kiddy party magic shelf instead of Copperfield magic shelf of borders.com.
I hate the fact on bn.com you have to wait a full 2 minutes to see the complete titles on their shelf, borders.com has the control of the shelf where I can scan quickly through the titles AND up or down for genres.

Borders.com might not have the traffic as bn.com right now, give them time and they will be up there and above.

There are some bugs in borders.com but personally, this is forgiven for a visually stunning and a warm'n'fuzzy user experience on the site.

I'd say, borders has the lead on b&n, which probably led to the CEO of bn.com standing down today.
Going to be an interesting holiday season between the stores.
