    Could the fact that the CEO and Chairman is under criminal investigation by the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office have anything to do with this discount?
    Really, the only numbers that really count with private equity buyers are EV/EBITDA and EV/Free Cash Flow. Not that the stock doesn't look cheap on that basis.
    The best comparables are Amkor, ASE, STTS and SPIL. There's also ASTT, but that's a distressed situation right now.

    You make a big assumption here: There will be a huge boom in video over IP; therefore corporations will have to spend a lot to keep pace. But what if the demand is all from youtube-addict consumers? I have a hard time visualizing how my company, for example, will need a lot of bandwidth for video.

    Most likely the convertible arbitrage hedge funds were setting up their shorts prior to the deal coming. You don't sell a deal with no notice -- I mean, you've got to do some due dililgence -- so these guys have to know about it before it comes.
