Anyone with a half a value oriented brain sees TSLA as another dot.com. When this knife falls, don't try and catch it.

TSLA: Dead car company walking. When this egg drops, we'll be reading "I got in at $XX.XX and got out when it was $XXX.XX. I knew it was another "new economy" bust."

I remember when the Segway was going to revolutionize transportation. Remember the Segway? Tesla's a four wheel Segway, a niche market but not a money maker.

Amazing what a change of management will do. Mr. McClendon's actions at the helm of his own personal financial plaything literally destroying the company in the process are finally being remedied.

Now all he has to do is figure out how to insure them. No one will.
Same with fixing them. No one but a select few know how.
Good Luck with your glorified golf cart.

I can't stop laughing at the Tesla koolaid drinkers. Try this on for size. What's your insurance bill? Who's going to fix it? Who's going to be "authorized" to fix it? Who has the knowledge to fix it? Insurance costs killed off the muscle cars. It'll do the same to Tesla.

Economy of scale profits dictate 150 to 200 THOUSAND copies a year. The average car plant makes 500 A SHIFT, a THOUSAND A DAY! 500 a week isn't a money maker at any price.

  • You'll Be Surprised By Tesla's Q2 Earnings [View article]
The car's been on the road, what, a year? What's the longevity of this golf cart? Will it get 150,000 miles before anything breaks? How about maintenance issues? Betting on this car is just that, betting.
All I see is the automotive version of dot.com mania.

Because I've been on this rock a looooong time and in the auto biz a loooong time. Seen many good ideas come and go. Tesla's business model is full of hopes and dreams. Do some research on how they are "making" a profit. BTDT

  • Raymond James is out with some colorful — albeit downbeat — commentary on Clean Energy Fuels' (CLNE +0.6%) BAF Technologies deal with Westport Innovations (previous). Pavel Molchanov calls the deal a "fairly minor transaction," but still says it is "quite dilutive" for CLNE. "Even if this sale generated cash proceeds to Clean Energy — which it's not —it wouldn't have changed" the company's "chronic overspending and deteriorating balance sheet," Molchanov adds. Underperform rating reiterated. [View news story]
Yep, Some people just can't see the forest for the trees. CNG transportation is here. Maybe not as fast as some would like but it is gaining momentum. FD Long CLNE

What is the residual value, percentage wise, on a leased Tesla? Take that $7500 tax credit off that number and a buyback is a loser. How long before that has a significant impact on the p/l statement?
There are so many holes in Tesla's business model, it's amazing how anyone can keep the blinders on and think they are ever going to be profitable enough to survive.

Has anyone seen Bob Lutz's interview discussing Tesla? He claims that Tesla has no proprietary parts and has just taken off the shelf items and assembled them. What's to prevent a major from doing the same thing and due to economies of scale, cut the EV price in half? This would effectively put Tesla out of business.

BigJ, Dealer franchise laws exist in almost every state in the country and have been the law of the land for decades. Legislatures are strengthening them to protect established businesses, jobs and the tax base.Tesla brings nothing to the table, tax wise, compared to the dealer networks.
