the point is well taken, but the past is not the future. the great standard of living we have enjoyed (and fought for) was not the result of fiat currency. i would argue that we enjoy the things we do in spite of the feckless leadership we have subjected ourselves to over the past 40 years. it is the policies of this most recent period - the actions of an already rich and now arrogant nation - that worries me.

"the nearest horizon" is the most relevant, is it not? Doesn't the enormous difference in recent performance jump out at you? The 49ers and Bengals played a couple of great super Bowls in the early 1980's, but I dont expect to see them there this year.
Even by Brad Ziglar's logic, if you expect a slump in the stock market, buy metals.

Silver and Gold: Buy, Hold or Run?

Longtime investor, but relatively new to GLD and SLV. I have performed what I think to be an objective analysis, and it points to a long position in both. There does appear to be some meddling in the markets, what with the physical product becoming scarcer yet the price is dropping. It is apparent as well the fed sees gold as a competitor to its paper. Both are commodities, but they are more than that - especially gold can be viewed as a counter-currency, and a clear hedge against inflation. The August price doldrums have played out, and I see GLD pushing $100 and SLV at $18+ by yearend. I am long in both.
