  • Why I Hate Apple [View article]
It's quite simple. The market prices according to the value it sees in the "story" of the company. The story it perpetually tells itself about Apple is that Apple is a high margin business driven by a few hit products. So the market essentially values Apple as if it's a movie studio. When they are perceived to have a hit on their hands the value surges. When they aren't, it tanks.

This understanding of Apple is at best simplistic at worst maliciously mendacious. Apple is not a hit machine. They are the leaders in a revolution that is personalizing technology and integrating seamlessly with more and more of our lives.

when will the market realize this? probably when all the managers who lived through the PC wars in the 80s retire.

it's that drama that keeps the notion of a perpetually doomed Apple alive.

  • The iPhone 6 May Have A Longer Upgrade Cycle - If So, Expect Unit Sales To Fall [View article]
Respect your tenacity michael, but your logic makes me cringe. Just because the iPhone may perform some of the functions of a tablet for some people it doesn't follow that the upgrade cycle will morph into anything like the tablet cycle.

First off it will still be thought of primarily as a phone and consumers are used to upgrading their phones every two years. So they will.

Secondly, it will be used as a phone, which implies the same battery drain, the same wear and tear so it may NEED to be replaced every two years.

Thirdly, the smartphone space is full of hyperbole. People wanting the latest and greatest. That will continue.

Fourthly of the two devices the 6+ is the only one that is a viable tablet substitute. And it accounts for only about a quarter of new phone sales so far. So even if true, your claim only affects a fraction of the devices you suggest it does.

  • Why Estimates Of A 1 Trillion Market Cap For Apple Are Still Far-Fetched: Fundamental And Algorithmic Analysis [View article]
bjn.. the rest of your analysis is great, but why do you keep on repeating this "15 cents per click" error? its .15 cents per hundred dollars transacted. Big difference. Apple pay is not designed to drive much revenue in its own right. It's a compelling feature of Apple's ecosystem.

actually I think the sensor has a way to distinguish living tissue from dead tissue. if true that would be another layer of complexity. but you're right no security is full proof the important thing is it is better and improving.

  • Investors Wait To Invest New Money In Apple [View article]
Making money timing trades is incredibly difficult. Even if you succeed, all the constant anxiety over entry and exit points would probably eat away at any genuine good the money could do you. Do your homework, invest in solid companies and let yourself relax.

But Blair does not provide a GOOD bearish argument. A bad argument is arguably worse than none, since it might give us bulls false confidence.

  • iPhone Surging, iPad Collapsing - Apple May Be Near Its Peak [View article]
A rational person takes in new information and revises his beliefs. Last quarter Mac revenue outpaced iPad, with iPhone remaining strong. The clear takeaway from the data is that many consumers trust Apple to satisfy their computing needs full stop. Sometimes they buy a Mac, sometimes a pad, sometimes a phone. But positive experiences across all the devices build Apple device loyalty.

So if I were trying to develop a comprehensive understanding of how Apple is doing overall, I would include Mac sales data. You don't. I would include the near universal slowing of growth in tablet sales you don't. It may be that for a while the big phones supplant the pads, with their higher selling price, shorter life cycle and higher gross margins you've yet to demonstrate why this is a bad thing.

Yes, you may be tempted to reply that people are no longer buying the phone and the Mac. Well that may be so but consumers are buying all threw and in record numbers. They are supremely pleased with all those products so guess what they'll come back the next time they need a computer. It could be a Mac, a pad, a phone, a watch, a TV set top. It could be something else but it will be an Apple computer. And the only way to convincingly argue that growth won't accrue is to demonstrate that the overall computerized gadget market is slowing, and THAT seems highly unlikely.

As long as people keep buying Apple computers who cares about the dimensions? And yes profits will stay steady or increase because the VALUE these devices give consumers will only increase for the foreseeable future.

The first question I asked myself when Sansung reported poor earnings is, who will be cast in the role of Apples arch nemesis now? I think we have an answer. As to how it will play out, I agree look at history.

exactly, great local info. As long as customers who can't quite afford it yet flock to Xiaomi, Apple has nothing to fear. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery not the deadliest form of competition. Having a Xiaomi product probably makes their customers want Apple even more.
