Matt Taibbi's 9,966-word evisceration of Goldman Sachs (GS), The Great American Bubble Machine, wins an award for outstanding journalism: "Taibbi is the first journalist to use the right combination of history, intelligence, investigation and moral outrage to chart the remarkable depth and breadth of Goldman's role in creating America's financial meltdown." Maybe he will be thrown into a black box at Goldman Sachs and "flash traded".

Nobody, I repeat nobody, has ever heard of the Applied Finance Group. So who cares what they think is a "strong sell". As opposed to what, a "weak sell"? This sounds like something you would read on a message board, .

Thank you Dale for your descriptive and perceptive synopsis of this financial lunacy. I long for the old days when 8-1 commodity leveraging looked " nuts".

Maybe several of these banks did not ask for TARP money. But they didn't turn down the bailout by proxy from AIG. The last time I checked Credit Default Swap counterparties are not supposed to be federally insured. The mismanagement of these firms almost created a global catastrophe, and the public's growing suspicion of Goldman Sach's and Morgan Stanley's manipulation of and profiteering in the oil market (to bankrupt Semgroup Holdings amongst other things), not to mention suspicous involvement in the demise of Lehman Bros., lends creedence to the argurment that a complete house cleaning is in order. Then maybe the public will begin to trust the U. S. financial system again.

I'm not convinced Intel is a buy right now but any analyst(Berenbaum), who's "top short idea" is Intel in the low teens should be taken with a grain of salt.
The Negative Convexity of CDS Trading and Why CDOs Chase Markets [View article]
Thank you for summing up a large part of the catastrophe of our financial system. A tranche should be something you dig in your garden. A mezzanine should be cheap concert tickets and the rest of this stuff should go on the trash heap of history.
Good insight. Its ridiculous that Standard and Poor and the analysts at the rating agencies are holding this enormous power of credit downgrades, after they were instrumental in creating this mess. And to hear S&P's Randal Clark use the phrase "well to be honest" in his discussion of AIG's downgrade yesterday really concerns me. It sounds like the corrupt mechanic on the corner. " To be honest Miss, you need the entire engine overhauled."
If your going to bash this stock, at least have the fortitude to put your name behind it. It is cowardly to not have to be held to your predictions or opinions. Like when a financial reporter says"some experts are saying", or "some analysts think".
