Imperial Sugar: Should You Be Greedy or Fearful?
I've also traded in and out of IPSU a few times. The company always seems to have a great story and then it blows up. I last traded the stock on June 22 when I sold my position for a 70% gain. Then I watched the stock go higher and higher and felt that this time they must really have gotten on track. I was lucky and I will try and think harder about going out on a lim for troubled companies. I would expect IPSU will have a hard time getting back to the $12 area but I'm done — in today's environment the less risk the better.

Safeway: Stock Implosion Offers Prime Buying Opportunity
I'm not a current owner of SWY but my concern is the competition. Here are my thoughts from a consumers point of view. My closest full service market is Safeway but recently Fresh and Easy has moved into the area, opening several stores in San Francisco and the surrounding area. At one time most of my food came from Safeway but now I shop at a variety of markets, looking for specific items from each. There include Fresh and Easy which is now my closest market, Trader Joes, Costco and also at a very good co-op market, plus this time of year I frequent a local produce market. Safeway still has a place in my shopping but it is a small fraction of what it once was. I always think that my experience is similar to a lot of other shoppers. People in my part of the country have gotten a lot more picky about the food they purchase. They want fresh, high quality produce, fresh fish and other quality items. Safeway is still geared toward the great middle ground with average food at medium prices. I own shares in Whole Foods but I don't shop there. I find it expensive and it isn't located close to me but for one stop, quality shopping, WFM makes a lot of sense.
