  • Stop Shorting Volatility Right Now [View article]
Great technical discussion guys. But a "gut feeling" says we are in for a bloodbath soon. While Putin may provided volatility in the short term, interest rate hikes and margin calls scare me more than Putin. Remember the kids game "musical chairs"? What happens when the music stops, the kids scramble to the "few" chairs that are remaining in the room. But this time it will be adults rushing the "few" exists in the room.
    Buckle up all!

  • The VIX Is Sending Odd Signals [View article]
Its also unpatriotic to screw savers out of income from their hard earned savings with interest rates at almost ZERO! But the banks are allowed basically "Free" money to play the market!
Wake up and smell the coffee. Its only a matter of time before the next sell off. Which will make the last financial crisis seem like a picnic, now that the U.S. is out of monetary bullets.

  • The VIX Is Sending Odd Signals [View article]
Remember the game: Musical Chairs, well the music is about to stop playing, and there are no more chairs left!, and only one exit door, suggest you leave the party while you can. In 1929 everyone was playing the market, before the crash, today we have a very similar situation, thanks to todays technology EVERYONE is playing the market just like in 1929, but on a "worldwide" scale!
Sell now while you can! I smell a 40% drop coming in the next 90 days.

  • How To Profit From VIX ETNs And Futures Contracts [View article]
    Thanks Nat
Great article and I will be reading it over and over to learn all of the VXX trading methodologies. I have been long VXX since last June and have been crushed! But 1987 will happen again, the trick is getting the timing right. Backwardation is looking like it will never return, but nothing goes straight up or down forever.
    Keep up the good work!

  • Buying the dip in the VIX (VXX -8.2%) is MKM Partners' Jim Strugger, who says we're still in the midst of a 5.5 year cycle of elevated market volatility which began in 2008. He expects one last "high-magnitude" event in the next few months. [View news story]
This is the biggest Sucker Rally that I have ever seen! It's 2008 all over again, buy the VIX dips, stay strong and long! When the s..t hits the fan there will be no cover! A 30 percent drop in the next 60 days is very likely especially when the U.S. debt ceiling is reached!
Good luck to all, patience is all that is required!

  • The apparent movement towards a deal has the VIX plunging 19%, one of its biggest single-day implosions in years (and that's saying something). The "fear gauge" had made a big move higher since mid-December as traders bet on a D.C. agreement not being reached. Other big moves: August 2011, -27%, May 2010 -30%. VXX -10.1%[View news story]
Still holding VXX sooner or later reality will set in. PIMCO head said it best yesterday on CNBC, Berneke is no Rumplstiskin, he cannot spin straw into gold forever !

  • Paybacks Are Hell, But Volatility Creates Opportunity [View article]
Agree timing is the only question, we all know the fundamentals are pointing to a massive re-set of the markets. I really expect that a re-set of at least 30 to 40 percent is possible on the S+P 500 the only question is when. I am long VXX and have been since June so I am under water but expect to be rewarded in the next 6 to 9 months, it's just a waiting game!

  • The VIX (VXX -6.7%) continues to slump, suggesting an ominous complacency in the face of struggling stocks. The VIX, however, measures the implied volatility of one-month S&P options, but tells nothing about forward volatility, which - as recently as late summer - was at a higher level than the day after Lehman went bankrupt. [View news story]
Polishing the brass on the Titanic, wish I had thought of that phrase! Agree 100%. Buckle-up people, its going to be a wild ride down!!! VIX could triple within the next 3 months.

  • The VIX below 15 is low? The realized volatility on the S&P 500 over the last 7 days is 1.87, according to a trader (the VIX measures expected volatility over the coming 30 days). It may not be a record as he has spotted a 7-day period in June 1996 when it measured 1.28. [View news story]
Calm before the storm(s)!! October has been unkind to longs for many years. When volume returns next month, it will set up a 30% correction in October, with or without QE3,4,5,6 etc.!

  • Scratching your head about a lower VIX (VXX -2.4%) even with stocks down? Don't forget the roll, writes Bill Luby. Today is the day SPX options contracts roll forward one month. A particularly large difference between near-term and further out term volatilities causes the VIX to be substantially depressed, though this should diminsh over time. [View news story]
Yes Volumes are very low indeed. A "pop" to the upside is coming, "patience" is the key, agree.

Load up on VXX while you can, it is the buy of a life-time. Yes this is a day trading vehicle, but if you have the capital, buy and hold into next year. You will be glad you did as this market is on sterroids thanks to the FED. But even the FED cannot control geopolitical events such as the probable Iran-U.S. confrontation in the Gulf! Fasten your seat belts, S+P turbulance ahead !!!!

  • Volatility Players: Decision Time [View article]
    Great post Josh
Backwardation is the "kicker" here, if one has enough guts to tough it out. Yes Uncle Ben and his pals can turn the markets on a dime, but really the effects cannot be longlasting. Also, I think the reason the FED may act sooner rather than later, is to build a cushion for the world economy before an international intervention in either Syria and/or Iran. Lets face it, Ben and the President must be talking everyday!
