As a Mac user, I like a good Microsoft bashing... but this was complete crap.
Switching to a new OS is a bear, but it's often worth the hassle. I've gone from Commodore 64 -> Atari 400 -> Apple IIe -> DOS 5.0 -> DOS 6.22 -> Windows 3.x -> Win95/98/98B -> Win2000 -> WinXP -> Panther -> Tiger -> Leopard
I just bought a new Mac mini and will be -> Snow Leopard by tomorrow.
You don't like that Windows 7 looks different? Too bad. interfaces evolve. You can't get better if you don't change.
OK, it crashed during setup. BFD. Windows 7 can only be installed as a nuke-and-pave, so I know you didn't lose any settings when it froze. Wipe the drive and start over.
I thought Mac users were whiny. OK, they are, but apparently they don't have an exclusive contract on it.
Software Piracy sells hardware. Guess what Apple, Inc. makes most of their money on.
The honest people will take the easiest route (iTunes Store), and the dishonest people will steal. Both will listen to their music on an iPod. Apple wins either way.
Apple iPhone 3G S: No Serious Overhaul Here [View article]
Wait until the teardown in 11 days. The major overhaul is on the inside: Next-generation CPU running at a higher speed with double the RAM - that sounds like a major overhaul to me!
Will Windows 7 Catalyze the PC Upgrade Cycle? [View article]
The days of spiked sales at OS launches are over. Once upon a time, most computer owners were also computer hobbyists (or worked in IT). In other words, nearly 100% of the market were of the upgrade-your-OS type.
While the total number of these people is as high (or higher) than it ever has been, they now only make up a small percentage of the total market. The computer has gone mainstream. Geeks once ruled the market, but the maturity of the industry outgrew them.
I expect that the VAST majority of Windows 7 license sales will go to people and businesses that build computers for other people to use and not to end users installing it on their own machine for their own use.
Apple Could Benefit from Selling Macs at Wal-Mart [View article]
I see Target before I see Wal-Mart, for two reasons.
1) Target's brand is in a different league as Wal-Mart.
2) Target's online counterpart is Amazon, which already has a functioning Mac sales channel.
If Apple decides to expand it's Store-within-a-store program to other partners it will do it like it's done it so far: a finite number of pilot stores, probably a half dozen. That said, I think the risk/reward ratio would be better to maximize the partnerships they already have and to continue building flagship stores and mall stores before forging new partnerships.
