No Bailout for the Governator: California's 'Fiscal Emergency' [View article]
Great little tidbit. I believe that the credit crisis has led to a budget crisis among states and university endowments. This is a large cause of concern, b/c it puts Obama, Geithner, Bernanke and gang in a predicament to bail out the public sector. They said some banks were "too big to fail" but we know for sure Cali is too big to fail, so is any state for that matter. I feel that this can lead to a further pull back in the public sector, possible government job cuts, and will restrict our growth substantially in the coming months. Housing and manufacturing data may be improving, but income, unemployment and budget issues will hinder our country's performance for quite sometime.
I am diligently working on an article explaining the new "budget crisis" that explains issues with state budgets and university endowments. It will be posted in the next few days at BullishBankers.com
Clearwire is a risky play as it is a play purely on WiMax becoming the 4G technology of the future. Feedback has been positive on it but the company is poorly run. The world has no desire for 4G connections just yet, but give it a few more years and 4G will be the "buzz" word, I'm sure Apple will start it with a 4G iPhone!
I believe that LTE could be the standard for 4G technologies. The top 2 Wireless carriers (who more or less are gaining market share to become a duopoly) support LTE, in addition to LTE being the #1 R&D project at QCOM... the leader of 3G technologies. I wrote an informative article on QCOM and why it's a wise investment here: www.bullishbankers.com.../
Good article and reference back to QCOM. I believe QCOM has survived the EU quite well and it should continue to outperform other chip makers as CDMA, 3G, and smartphones are continually adopted worldwide (esp China). I would not rule out a CDMA iPhone. Yes its extra engineering costs and Apple likes to corner the market and maintain brand loyalty, but it just doesnt make sense to avoid this opportunity for top line growth. I would be willing to bet that VZ (and QCOM) would pitch some cash in to see this expedited.
I remain extremely bullish on AAPL. They have so many opportunites to jump into adjacent markets: iPad to compete with AMZN's eKindle reader, CDMA iPhone for VZ and China, Netbooks, and who knows what they'll think of next!
I'm still waiting for the first enterprise to adopt the iPhone as mandatory and watch others follow suit. Look up innovation in the dictionary, and AAPL should be in there.
Amazon Is Wal-Mart, The Next Generation [View article]
Valiant point made that AMZN's site did not crash and thus spiked with its rapid response to Jackson's passing. this shows how well the company is managed.
For the comment that AMZN is the next WMT, I believe that is a bit bold. Yes, AMZN is the leading internet commerce site but WMT is a multinational of epic proportions. AMZN still has room to grow, but with a P/E of 53, it may still be over priced. If growth stopped, would you be will to wait 53 years to earn back your investment in EPS? Who knows, maybe someday AMZM will be an online independent grocer that will deliver food and goods to your doorstep. Mobile commerce is not out of the question too. Could they start an auction site and take share from EBAY? Could they partner with wireless carriers, mobile chip makers, or mobile OS companies to offer its e-Kindle reader or similar, adjacent products like netbooks/smartphones? The possibilities are endless.
eCommerce continues to grow, but is the 53 PE justifiable?
I researched Corning because of its Telecom business and substantial footprint in fiber optics. Through the downturn of the last year, I was worrisome of GLW as an investment in large part because of the LCD business.
However, as indicated above, the LCD glass demand has bounced back. This may also be due to the fact of the switch from the Analog to Digital television was finally completed. I am now back to being a bull (with caution) on GLW.
My only concern is that LCD could be on its way out in the handset market, with the development of Mirasol Display Technology by Qualcomm (QCOM). I wrote an article on emerging technologies for the mobile world: www.bullishbankers.com.../
In the article, I embedded a link to check out how revolutionary the Mirasol Display Technology is and how this will affect the LCD market. I am curious to see how much Corning makes from LCD in wireless handsets. Eric if you know this number, please comment back. Great Article! Thanks!
I like your article, but I would like to see a target with some background facts on why it will hit 6,000. Personally, I think that we will see a double dip market, but 6,000 is a bold statement.
I plan on writing an article of how the CREDIT CRISIS IS NOW A BUDGET CRISIS, and how state budgets, endowments, and other public sectors have been hit hard on the budgets. This could lead to the next wave of bailouts; we still have tough times ahead. This article will be released through my company's website: BullishBankers.com
Hopefully this article will be released later this week or early next week!
The Intercloud: Where Computing Needs to Go [View article]
Good article, I am bullish on my CSCO holding with their entrance into so many new markets. Their Unified Computing System (UCS) is a superior product for virtualization and cloud computing. I agree that AMZN and GOOG are also cloud computing leaders, but dont overlook Sybase's (SY) mobilizartion software that operates on their cloud.

Google's Android also has potential in the netbook/smartbook market as the Linux-based OS can be installed, for free! This is appealing to manufacturers who try to cut costs as netbooks are marketed as small, cheap notebooks. I wrote an article on this at my company website: www.bullishbankers.com.../
Check it out... it reviews the emerging technologies (like QCOM and GOOG) for the mobilization trend and wireless world
Intel is making the netbook to smartphone transition, quite the opposite of Qualcomm. Intel tried and failed at this before, but new Management may be able to push this through. this could revive nokia's dying market share, especially in the smartphone niche.
Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
Despite the pessimistic news on Boeing as of late, my colleague made a strong case for the company. I believe that it presents an opportunity for long-term investors to buy a "strong company on weakness." Think of it this way: buy the stock on a little dip to $40, watch it climb back to $50 and cash in. Say this takes an absurd amount of time... say exactly 2 years. That's a 25% capital gain, and 4% per year in dividends. A 33% gain over two years? I'll take that investment anyday.
Good article. I believe the aerospace cycle is finally bottoming and looks promising in the next year or so. This is a classic case of "buying a strong company on weakness."
Think of it this way: you get the stock at $40, in exactly 2 years it hits $50. That 25% in capital gains, but dont forget about the 4% gains each year in dividends. 33% gain over two years? I'll cash that check anyday.
Palm: And Now It’s All About the Pre [View article]
I remain with the skeptics on PALM. This stock (and Sprint's) have seen some of the best 2009 YTD returns. However, they are relying on one product to do it all: the Pre. This is a boom or bust lottery pick, and I believe that PALM is a one-trick pony. The iPhone brand loyalty is too strong for users to switch over. Sprint's network is inconsistent.
This could be a case like the Microsoft Zune and the iPod. PALM is too late to the party, despite its product to be superior. Plus the PALM apps will not take off quite like Apple's. Once again, similar to success of Apple's value-added service iTunes, where MSFT could not compete.

Smart Grids are great under any Obama investor. Communication companies such as CSCO, AT&T, and Verizon are all indirectly benefiting from the smart grid push. Check out these strong companies with great dividends.

My colleague Ryan Savitz wrote a similar article on SYK being the healthcare stock to be in for an economic recovery. Check it out at our company website here: www.bullishbankers.com.../
I think you are spot on with your valuation of SYK. During the recession, SYK's products were ignored due to tight cash. Thus this means replacement surgery was delayed, exacerbating the problem, and will need done in a more favorable economic rebound.
Cramer Is Wrong: Why NII Holdings Is a Buy [View article]
I like your article here, although I still believe that AMX is the winner vs. NIHD due to the fact that their markets are traditionally low income as opposed to customers who would be more likely to have higher end phones. I see business sectors lagging in their markets as their currencies have problems holding up against the dollar.
